Is a 2nd ‘Thank You’ replacing ‘You’re Welcome’ in conversation?

You say ‘Thank you’ to a person and they reply with ‘Thank you’ with upward inflection on ‘you.’ Normally in a business setting but can be other times also.

Is ‘You’re Welcome’ in danger?

Been happening for years. I brought this up to a friend who passed away over 10 years ago so it was common even back then.

I know 1 person at work who responds with you are welcome. I'm not even sure where the hell the thank you thank you came from.

In the NW people don't say You're Welcome, they say You Bet!

For some reason "you're welcome" sounds pretentious, or like you were expecting a thank you.

Also related to this topic, I feel that I must include a "thank you" in every email I send for work or else I will come across as demanding/harsh/unappreciative. It's out of control.

Holy shite baw, I think you're right. You see it more in a transaction based setting. But you may be on to something here.

I could never respect someone who said this. It just wreaks of cowardice.

I know this will still rustle people, but 9/10 times I hear "no problem" "sure thing" "you got it" "absolutely" or something similar.
