10 days before a possible Gulf storm ? By September 22, there will likely be short waves and mid latitude troughs that would potentially recurve any cyclone out to sea. Getting late. Fronts will be coming through soon

The one run of the GFS showing an East coast hit on Florida with a ridge on top is a bit worrisome but it is 10 days out AND by then we will be nearing the end of September. It would be unusual for something to make it this far west into the Gulf. My one worry is that we are not predicted to have many, if any, fronts moving through over the next week to two weeks and temps should be above normal. The pattern is set for potential mishap in the Gulf, unfortunately. I still give this a high percent chance of going out to sea in the end but I am watching this more closely than most storms out in the Atlantic this time of year.

1. A tropical wave located about 1200 miles east of the Windward
Islands is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms.
Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for gradual
development, and a tropical depression is expected to form in 2 or 3
days. Interests in the Lesser Antilles should closely monitor the
progress of this system while it moves westward to west-
northwestward at about 15 mph.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...50 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...90 percent.

TD14L has the lead to be named Lee, but it won't make US landfall.

96L still looks like a potential bitch.

potentially but it is still very early. There are so many factors at play that determine where these things go and how much, if any, they intensify that it is really a crap shoot at best. I liken it to a row of people stretched across the end of a big Wal-Mart sized parking lot and someone on the far end is rolling a bowling ball in your general direction from 100 yards away. There is the same % chance that it will hit you and with any velocity as these storms do that far out. In other words it could go anywhere or nowhere at all.
