The young black woman next to me says she wants to deposit $150.00, then get $75 back. Young black male teller tells her he can't. She only handed him $74. He can give her half that back if she wants. They calmly go back and forth for a minute.

Turns out she handed him a stack of two-dollar bills, only totaling $74.00! And she says, " That's what I'm trying to tell you. They're two-dollar bills. So $74.00 of two-dollar bills adds up to $150!!!

Swear to little baby Jezuz. Couldn't make this chit up if I tried.

She was pretty cool about it tho. I was expecting a bittch fest to start. She said, " Opps, my bad" and chuckled.

First of, how dumb do you have to be?

Second, but more interestingly, where does someone get 37 $2 bills in 2026?

She might be a stripper. With all the inflation over the last few years folks have started throwing $2 bills

I know they are not commonly circulated but they are still currently being produced by the US Bureau of Printing and Engraving and are regularly distributed to banks.

They are usually available to the public at what banks are still open at their face value.

I don’t collect bank notes and I’m reasonably sure the ones in banks aren’t collectible.

I might pay some debt in them as a good now that you mention it.

They still print $2 or at least they did 4/5 years ago. I got a strap of them. Had to order them from the bank. They all appeared to be uncirculated.

Interesting irony.

Fractional reserve banking / money multiplier…

The bank will take those $74 and loan them out or pass them into economy by factor of 6-10-times.

Her would-be $150 that is really just $74 is worth over $700 to the bank(s) it will touch.

We just did an Easter egg hunt for kids. Special eggs had $ in them. When I went to bank to get cash for hunt, teller offered $2 bills. Had not seen them in decades. Brand new bills.

The $2 bill has the coolest engraving on the back of any bill that's been produced. It may be the only reason they still print them.

Indeed, I have a pretty good imagination. But, sadly, no, every word is true

Today I learned that one should use hand sanitizer after touching $2 bills.
