Infant beats Covid after 9 week battle

Some good news for today. This is a personal story so no news link. A couple who I know had a newborn baby girl catch Covid right after she was born while in the hospital. It was rough as she was so young she had no immune system and got very close to death at one point. Outlook was bleak. 9 weeks later she was sent home perfectly healthy. God is Good and Bless the doctors who helped her make a full recovery!

I thought newborns basically had the mothers immune system for a few months after birth?

They do to some extent and in the case of Covid-19 it is new therefore no anti-bodies in mom.

I have so many questions that are not relevant to the fact that a baby girl is ok
Hopefully she lives a long healthy life with no long term issues

I can tell you this has been a pretty scary time to bring a child into the world.

Most people already have effective antibodies against corona. This is why up to 90%+ are asymptomatic. The body defeats it immediately.

I couldn’t imagine it with a first child, I’d be scared to death to go through something like that again
It also really sucks that the parents didn’t get to do all the fun new baby stuff but they can more than make up for it now

I have a friend with a 10 month old that tested positive and has since recovered. Neither parent ever tested positive. Another child (3-4 years I think) never tested positive.

This is our first child. I’m in senior living. Wife works with cancer patients. We are still quarantined, essentially. No one on my side of the family has held the baby.

I’m pregnant and almost halfway there, I have c sections meaning a longer hospital stay. I feel I’m very careful when I do go places but my husband isn’t quite as much. Nervous about possibly getting it farther along or the baby contracting it. They’ve said kids don’t get it but obviously that isn’t the case. It’s hard to find any peace of mind.

My first is due in about a month. It’s pretty terrifying if I’m honest. I would be scared anyway under the best of circumstances and this is most certainly not the best of circumstances. My newborn catching COVID with no real way of fighting it off scares the absolute shite out of me.

We’ve felt this way for 4 months. Unfortunately, you can only trust yourself.

Agreed. My older two are going to school because we have been told kids don’t really transmit. I think only time will tell. I do think the holidays, which is when I’m due, may end up looking a lot different (even more so than they already would this year) because we won’t be able to risk the kids, my husband or I contracting it. I’m already considered high risk and had HELLP syndrome last pregnancy, I cannot imagine having to be alone on the hospital for the c section and recovery—it was easy for my first, scary and rough for my second and now doing all I can do ensure it goes better this time.
It is scary to know this baby contractedthe virus so young, but very encouraging to know he recovered.
