The hairs were likely on him or in his car and it stuck to the victims. He didn't place it there for funsies.

Kudos to Suffolk County investigators for nailing this piece of shite.

What made him panic google searches last night?

That guy looks like Kirby Smart with about 20 years of age, 8 inches of height and 120 pounds of fat on him.

I think the article is just poorly written. I think they mean that at various points before being taken into custody last night, he had conducted panicked google searches.

Give this guy a red solo cup and a plate of chicken wings and he'd look right at home in the Grove on a fall Saturday.

At least several of the victims (the ones found not dismembered at least) were around 5 feet, 100 pounds. Apparently it’s the non-dismembered victims he’s been charged with killing. Some of the dismembered victims are from the mid ‘90s and it’s inconclusive at this point whether they were killed by same perpetrator. Maybe this guy will spill his fat guts to LE.

Law enforcement sources tell DailyMail.com he has been on their radar since last year. Investigators matched him to the crimes by tracking the phone calls made from burner phones to the victims' cell phones over 10 years ago.
why did it take so long if they had this evidence?

This is just my guess, but the evidence from the phone calls only means they could determine he was in contact with known prostitutes.

It wasn't until they were able to tie his wife's DNA to the bodies that they were able to combine the phone record evidence with the DNA evidence to build a strong enough case to say he murdered them and didn't just use the phones for solicitation.
