Among other things, the ability to institutionalize the crazy. Our society (U.S.), has normalized them instead.

That’s easy. One word.

Hate.

We have so much hate in our country and the hate is generated, celebritized, and fueled by many on TV.

It's the internet.

1.) People can much more easily connect to others with similar beliefs, amplifying their thoughts through the echo chamber.

2.) People are constantly blasted with opinion pieces from both sides of ideologies.

3.) People are exposed to more extreme opinions than previously was the norm. The media is a great example of this. Anyone on the other side of the aisle is no longer painted as people with a different opinion, but instead are people who are the enemy and evil.

Internet. All problems and fears are magnified ten fold. All manner of destructive acts can be researched from your bedroom.

This is true in many ways. This forum has pushed this belief for a long time too.

A shooting isn't going to cover up any news that Clinton and others are perverts.

A lot of mass shootings or attempted shootings, are carried out by someone who has been bullied or outcast in one way or another. And social media only helps feed these behaviors. Everyone is 10’ tall and bulletproof over a keyboard.

People don't value life like they should.

I don't want to be that guy (because I like the internet and social media), but I do think those things have desensitized us to treating people like humans instead of words/posts on a website.

That and people possibly basing their entire identity around their political view instead of having an actual personality.

I thought it was documented the shooters were picked on which is why they singled out athletes and others live.

What I’m wondering is why is this all happening right before re-election?

It’s the news cycle. We are able to be up to date on the happenings in any place in America 24/7.

It’s because people are afraid to identify fricked up people as being crazy.

Aww poor little Braden is autistic, has assburgers, or is suffering from gender identity.

NO. Braden is a sick little frick. Get him out of the classroom and get him some fricking help.

The other group is PTSD. Errbody has some motherfricking PTSD now. Grown arse soy boys and purple haired bitches walking around airports letting their service dogs shite all over the place. It’s bullshite.

I think there's an uptick in murderous mental instability. Why that's happening is questionable. Too many pharma issues, violent culture including media and video games.

Guns aren't the only problem but they certainly do make it easy to kill a lot of people if you want to.

I think it's incumbent our leaders, including Trump, to sit down and bring ideas to the table to make an effort to address mass killings AND killings related to drug violence. Talk honestly about all issues including but not limited to Pharmaceutical mis use, video games, gun availability, and any other factor that could play into it.
Leaders gotta do more than lip service.

That's a good take as well.

People saying that we used to institutionalize the crazies, that's not really applicable I think.

A lot of these shooters look pretty normal from the outside. The guy in Vegas was successful. James Holmes was very intelligent before he started coming undone.

Media has a role. Politics and the hatred and constant fighting and finger pointing. Economics with the young ones. All they see is a giant amount of debt and no realistic way out unfortunately. (Regardless of if their decisions put them there or not.)

This country is extremely sick and I have no idea what the cure is. I dont really know that there is one. Things like this might possibly just be some of the warning signs and effects of total collapse.
