Eric seems like a grade A douche. He wanted to be fired, but wanted some attention as well. It will probably result in some sympathy perks at his new place of work. Unfortunately, he’s gaming the system and will continue to be an entitled piece of shite.

You realize none of these SWE are going to be struggling to find work?
Despite the slowdown amongst the big legacy giants in tech, you still have people with moderate resumes getting $40-$50 an hour paid internships with 1-2 years of school left. Walking into 100k+ jobs in a broadening range of industries, cause everyone needs developers and that need is still growing.
The people that will be hurt relatively are the recent graduates(who will be outclassed by a flood of experienced engineers with big 5 experience), and the functionaries like the guys just taking down goatse pics and copyright infringement posts for 50k a year, or that marketing major that was hot and got a cushy sales job cause she flirted with a hiring manager(that will probably be laid off) but when push comes to shove they are luxury items and not necessities of the core business....but SWE are, and their economic need isnt going away.
