I’m in Houston for Thanksgiving - when did this city become such a crap hole?

Been driving around scoping it out all day - come here several times a year for family.
This year everything looks worse than ever before. It’s turning into a shithole.
What happened here?

Thank you for this vague criticism. We take your concern seriously. Will try to do better in the future.

Compare the electoral maps between 2000 and 2018 and you have your answer

I’m not being vague. Everything I’ve seen in downtown and west Houston is run down. Crappy.
I come here often and yet this trip everything is different. Did it reach a tipping point?

Where are you coming from

Baton Rouge area, so I am an expert on shitholes

Oil price decline hit the city hard for one thing not to mention the hurricane. Houston way off compared to Dallas and Austin but still much nicer than 95% of the other large American cities.

Since 2010.
Place is a shithole. Woodlands and Katy are the only redeeming parts of that city.
It’s what happens when people willingly continue building in an area that gets ROCKED any hurricanes every decade. It just gets shittier and shittier until people learn their lesson and leave.

I know this is crazy and all but this little thing call Hurricane Harvey kinda fricked some shite up. Also, you’re in the poor part of Houston. Go to Kingwood and Woodlands and get back to me.

I don’t know what percentage of it is a shithole, but damn that place is bland. It’s a concrete jungle, and not an aesthetically pleasing one.
Strip malls galore, chain restaurants and fast food joints.

Aren't you mid 20s? I don't know anyone our age who considers generic suburbs to be the best part of Houston but ok
Posted on 11/21/18 at 2:56 pm to theunknownknight
It's been a crap hole for quite some time now.

Harvey happened. Still recovering from that.
