re: I’m in Houston for Thanksgiving - when did this city become such a crap hole?

Hi. Mays here. I live in Midtown. 30 bars and 35 restaurants within 5 blocks of me. We're glad y'all think the city sucks - we don't need any more of you moving here.

I’m in Kingwood right now.
Shithole.
Then you probably noticed the sidewalks (“greenbelts”) that pass beneath many of the streets rather than expecting pedestrians to walk across crosswalks. That makes a lot of sense for younger health conscious adults who like to exercise and who have children that can walk to school. That’s right, kids in Kingwood can actually walk to their schools.
Please list any cities or neighborhoods in Baton Rouge that provide this to the residents.
You might have also noticed the jogging trails that go through the woods and around the lake. The access to water views is amazing.
But with water access comes with flood risk. Thanks to fricktards in Conroe who live 200 feet above Kingwood and upstream, a historical record amount of water caused that area to experience a massive amount of flooding that it has not yet recovered from.
If you’re looking for young college sloots to bang, that suburb is not for you. But if you’re into MILFs, go to Kings Harbor and hang at the recently re-opened Raffa’s bar and the nearby Chimichurri’s bar. Another place for MILF hunting is called Union Kitchen (their bar of course).
It’s a great escape from the population density of downtown, midtown, the galleria, and anything else the busy gridlocked 610 loop.
But if you’re staying downtown, there is no shortage of great places to go for great food and booze.
After New Orleans, Vegas, New York, LA, and San Fran, there isn’t a better city to hang out in. But Austin just might be better.

It’s always hilarious to me how people on this board try to defend their moving to a liberal shithole like Texas because they couldn’t find a job here

Uhh Chevron is actually the only major that still has their office downtown. All the others moved out to the burbs.

Kingwood was destroyed during Harvey. I live in the woodlands and it’s awesome. I’m From Baton Rouge and lived in Lafayette for 4 years, Houston makes Louisiana look like a 3rd world shithole.
Heights and the Montrose area is also great if you’re single and can afford it. But yes they do have concrete which is the side effect of a functional transportation system and infrastructure, something Louisiana severely lacks.

Seemed like a lot more then that when we were looking in the area. We moved here in November, 2017 and kingwood seemed like a disaster zone but that might’ve just been the areas we were looking around.

I love Katy. Big house, pool, smooth streets, public school for the kids, low crime...all these things I wouldn’t have in Louisiana

That gets old for a lot of people after 5+ years.
