In the areas I mentioned it is. You have a chance of contracting a life threatening disease if you walk downtown with an open cut in NOLA. You better not lose your balance and hit the pavement or its time to meet your maker

Whatever the year round average is, 45 in a dry climate like Denver is actually pretty mild, whereas 45 in South Louisiana you're going to be freezing your arse off.

Winters in Denver are actually pretty enjoyable. Especially when you factor in the proximity to skiing and other outdoor activities.

To each their own, but give me that over wearing shorts on Christmas any day of the week.

Going overboard on the hyperbole there, mate.

We get it, New Orleans sucks. Surprisingly, not many people are arguing with that. But you just sound retarded.

I can't understand why New Orleans is legitimately being compared to Denver.

The difference in climate, infrastructure, public transportation, jobs, housing, and crime aren't even remotely comparable.

National and global companies are relocating headquarters and opening new offices in Denver for a reason. Most recently I know BP is opening a large regional office there.

Literally the only things I miss in New Orleans are Avenue Pub becuase I occasionally like to have good beer between the hours of 6am and 10am, and of course the food.

Yes, all cities have their issues, but New Orleans has the issues of 5 cities combined.

I'm currently living in Austin. Great city, but about as over rated as they come.

Personally, my next move if I'm not relocated back to Houston will be to Salt Lake City, Colorado Springs, Bozeman, or Billings.

My man! Love all these places and is a list I have in my head as well. We have a subsidiary located in Salt Lake. I've told my wife that I'd love to move out there.

I go to Denver a good bit and over the years it has become a dump.

No you obviously don't haha. Almost every part of the city is way nicer than it was 3/4 years ago (not like it was a 'dump' before)

Was a fabulous city in the days of my youth, loved it and never, ever felt unsafe and as a public school kid we played in some pretty dicey places, during the 70s. Now, not enough gold in Fort Knox and if I never lay eyes upon her again, that is okay.

I can still imagine her appeal but her pluses and minuses are neck and neck and that assumes the latter hasn't already overtaken the former.

Am proud she is the place of my birth and youth but now as an elder she breaks my heart.

Feel the same way, falls.

I'm proud that my parents were Yats...that I grew up in St. Charles Parish but considered myself a New Orleanian. It will always feel like home, despite the fact that I haven't lived in the area for 30 years.

But the hard truth is...New Orleans in 2017 is NOT New Orleans from 1960, or 70, or 80. That place, for good or bad (I'd say bad) is just a memory. Pretending it's the same place today because it's located geographically at the same location and has the same name is silly. What good does pretending do anyone?

And as you can see in this thread and threads like it, the problems are NOT just those caused by the worst elements of the city, but by those who enable her decline by pretending all is fine and only complete and total defense of her is the correct behavior. This, sadly, is not just a New Orleans trait, but a Louisiana trait as well. Sarcastically waving goodbye at good people who expect better as they try and give honest exit interviews of the place they once loved as they walk out the door. Typical Louisiana...

FWIW, I live in Youngsville and like it, but I stay NOT because I think it's the best place I COULD live but because it happens to be WHERE I live and I'm not uprooting my boys. But...they are both being instructed that they ought to consider leaving the state ASAP after college and that their mother and I will visit them wherever they decide to move. To tell them they ought to stay as nothing ever changes for the good is tantamount to chaining them to a sinking ship and counter to what parenting should be about.

Was just at Trillium a couple weekends ago (Canton) and pass by the Fort Point location on my way to/from work.

Treehouse is a bit of a hike but I've been meaning to get out there and see the new brewery now that it's opened.

Willing to do a trade.

It coincidentally died down when LSU was scheduled to play in the Dome and is now picking back up again. All the butt hurt Boycott NOLA crowd didn't seem to have a problem coming for the LSU/BYU game.

You'll get lots of upvotes from non New Orleanians who take every opportunity to bash the city on here. Those of us that live here are aware of the problems but the truth is the rest of the state has always hated New Orleans. This isn't some new thing.

I think Huey Long said North Louisiana hates south Louisiana, South Louisiana hates North Louisiana and they both hate New Orleans.

Great post. I'm proud to be from Nola. My parents and their parents and their parents were born and lived and died in Nola. I heard stories from my father of what a magical place it was to grow up. And I realize everyone is nostalgic about their childhood, it is clear Nola was once an awesome place and its equally clear it no longer is. I moved to Texas four years ago with zero regrets. I may not stay in Texas forever but I'll never move back to Louisiana.
