Plenty of people from NOLA admit it's a shite hole myself included.

then why do so many of you get defensive and seemingly deny those problems? I understand defending your city and loving it despite its flaws. But some of you come across as delusional about the reality of the current conditions. You seem as biased in your defense/denial as those who bash it at every turn.

The difference in climate

The most shockkng thing in this thread is someone claiming Nola's weather is a positive. Nola's humidity is rarely considered a good thing.

Grew up in that fricking dump (well, Metairie) and moved away after college. Visiting once every year or every other year for Saints/LSU games is enough of a reminder for me.

Haven't been to visit in 4 or 5 years. It used to be fun to visit but it takes me a whole week away just to be able to get the piss smell out of my nose.

Did you pass out on a curb on Bourbon Street?

Summer is May to October and even in December the ACs are running.

The policies of the Longs and EWE ran the white collar offices of oil companies out of the state.

New Orleans is a city of government, lawyers, and tourism now. Any real industry down there is on the river or in another parish. The people have what they wanted.

It's a socialist failure.

I am disappointed in the weather here in Houston too though. I had in my mind that it might be a little hotter but it'd be drier. Nope, same humidity as Nola but even hotter.

And this is why I hold no hope for the city. What can a mayor do? Only so much a mayor can do to attract businesses. The problems are too deep and entrenched, not to mention the fear of flooding.

I'd say that, except for some cold fronts in winter that last only five or so days at most, the AC will have to run year round in NOLA.

I would enjoy some more days in the 50's. However, that would mean moving inland. Give and take.

I'm with you. Have instructed our children to begin their own traditions and to carve a path which best suits them...Mom and Dad will be just real fine, we made our choices, and their happiness is paramount as we don't have to live their lives, that is their responsibility.

That one day of flooding doesn't equate flooding every day.

All the other drama that has followed is political.

Brilliant idea - until 12 year olds from the bad side of Broad figured they could grab some wallets with daddy's glock by camping out on it.

Come now. 12 year olds that would rob people don't know who their daddies are... much less can take their guns.

New Orleans sucks.

Get out if you can.

Some of us have lived our whole lives here and stay because of family reasons, or we don't want have to relocate, etc.

Why anyone would want to move here is beyond me.

I've been thinking of moving since BEFORE Katrina, and probably should have afterwards.

Nope.

Lake living in the southeast is reasonable, and lake view living is even more reasonable (just stay away from the subdivisions built for the half backs).
