It's fun to see the entitlement on St. Charles and Orleans. It comes from different places, but the effect is the same - shitting on everyone else's fun.

The Uptown Charlies and Mid-City Chads can EABOD.

The old rich lady that was interviewed on the news last night who lives on St. Charles and bragged that she's been putting up ladders for 3 decades disagrees.

The "real uptowners" are the ones that think the neutral ground in front of their house belongs to them, and they set up stuff well in advance and show up an hour before parade time.

What's stopping someone from just going up there in the middle of the night and stealing a nice ladder for themselves?

I have a very simple solution to the problem. It comes in two parts.

1) Any unaccompanied items (ladders, tables, chairs, etc) are picked up and thrown out. If you want to sit out there for 6 days straight to watch your stuff, knock yourself out. But if you aren't out there with your stuff, away it goes.

2) Ladders are only allowed on the neutral ground side, and only if the neutral ground is greater than 12 feet wide. If it is, then the ladders must be in the back half of the neutral ground. The city can determine these locations.

If you create more spaces where ladders aren't allowed, they will start to go away. A big part of our ladder problem is that people feel that if they don't have one, then they won't be able to see anything, because so many other people have them.

This sounds like a business opportunity for those scooters companies or the one that does the tailgates in BR.

The city can start selling a "ladder experience".

Nothing, people usually chain them together but if you really want to steal a wooden ladder that badly, go for it

Buying a ladder is for rookies.

We made one with mostly scrap stuff from my BIL's garage. Sturdy ladder, wood to make a nice seat to hold two little kids, carpet for the inside of the seat, old mop handle and old belts to hold kiddos in securely. I even made a nice platform piece to stand on so your feet didn't get tired on the steps. Added a cup older on each side and then a big plastic tube to drop beads in to flow down to a bag.

No wheels..?

The carpet is a nice touch though...

And can we keep it that way? It's the last bastion of freedom in this ever encumbering, tyrannical, bureaucrats haven we live in.

I say let the commoners sort it out amongst themselves. Wild Wild West Style.
