I would not try to protect a major city. I would destroy all the infrastructure I could and leave it behind.

Go to desolate low populations places. Defend those as needed. Launch harassment incursions on their fronts. Disrupt their supply lines from the rear.

I am not sure that an occupation of the U.S. is even remotely possible give the armed populace.

My property backs up to the Natchez Trace and I know it pretty well, don’t think I’d go anywhere else.

With all of the infrared and nightvision scopes most modern militaries have, urban guerilla warfare would be the ticket. Though surviving in the wilderness would be likely easier, evading capture and setting up ambushes in a large city would be much easier. Think of what the Russians did to the Germans in Leningrad. It was a 900-day siege with the Russians peppering the Germans with snipers and boobytraps until the Germans finally got outflanked and surrounded.

You'd have to have a few things. Access to water. Access to food, supplies ammunition. The ability to blend into the terrain. A combination of access but at the same time remoteness. The fighters should have the ability to survive in the landscape while at the same time making it very difficult for the opposition to traverse the same terrain.

In my part of the world, I think it would be Echo Canyon near Echo, Utah or Sherman Hill and Telephone Canyon on I-80 in Wyoming. You could easily disrupt east-west travel for the invaders.

Similarly the area between Richfield, Hanksville and Green River, Utah would be easy to get lost in and could disrupt travel on I-70.

I-40 between Asheville, NC and Knoxville, TN would be a similar choke point.

There are a few videos of German troops doing this when the allies columns were advancing in Germany. They were killed pretty much instantly.

The hog hunting craze has thousands of good ole boys sporting high grade thermal imaging scopes and many have suppressors. Even the civilian population here has a decent supply of night capability. No one wants to be an occupying force here. Their best bet is to take out our grid and leave us to destroy ourselves from within taking us out of the global fight

The Appalachian mountains no mechanized vehicles would get to you easily blow the bridges on I 40 I 81 I 77 I 85 only thing would be missiles and you wouldn’t have any large numbers of people in any location. Plus blowing the bridge causes huge problems for helicopter refueling making missions in the mountains very difficult now other aircraft not as much. but with drone heat seeking vision ect that’s gonna be a problem. Some of these drones as you have seen are insanely effective. You need a bunker under ground with 6 months of supplies to even have a prayer few containers and a hell of an excavator. Key don’t get into a dang war.

If I'm trying to invade the US....I would not want to frick with Louisiana (difficult terrain, armed populace, impossible to move vehicles if you can't control the bridges) or Texas (literally everyone is ready to fight you).

If I'm defending the US, I would really hate to go up against anyone in Kansas or Oklahoma, where the terrain is wide open and there's no place to really hide your movements.
