I have moved from NOLA-BR-Tallahassee-Orlando-Tallahassee-NOLA-Dallas. We hope to move to Denver one day which would probably our last move for a while.

You mean where there are jobs?

Since when did liberals start to care about jobs?

I have a secure, well paying job. We are surrounded by family and friends. We spend 3 weeks a year traveling to various parts of the world for vacation. Why the frick do I need to pack up and move just to say I have? This precept is fricking stupid.

I'm 30 and I've lived in Houston, Atlanta, Memphis, Baton Rouge, and (briefly)Tampa. I'm preparing a move to either Portland or Pittsburgh this year. Most likely Pittsburgh.

All of my moves were because of my career.

In my honest opinion, moving is a royal pain in the arse and I don't like doing it.

I've lived there for about 10 months. It grew on me during that time.

I loved spending weekends in Savannah and Charleston too.

You shouldn't.

No, it's not. There is a big difference between living in a city and visiting / vacationing in a city.

I lived in L.A. (Burbank) for several months ... completely different experience from having visited before. Same here now in Atlanta.

No, you don't have to do it just say you did, but living in an area for several months is completely different than visiting for two weeks.

On this one, I agree with Rex ... and I didn't think I'd ever type those words

The way you feel about Atlanta, I feel much the same way about Houston, but I am sure there are plenty of positives that I am not aware.

Atlanta is a city with plenty of faults, but I think it is also one that you appreciate much more as a resident, than as a visitor.

I agree. Don't move to a place that you won't learn to appreciate.

I appreciate Atlanta and Houston for what they are. I'd definitely be pleased if I end up living in Atlanta again during my lifetime. There are far, far worse places to end up than Atlanta or Houston. As difficult as 2008/2009 were for me, I still enjoyed my time in Atlanta (and Houston).

I'm actually going to miss Memphis when we move. The people here are very friendly. The place has a nice soundtrack and really good BBQ as well. This place has serious issues, sketchy weather (really cold in the winter, hot during the summer, tornadoes in the spring), and terrible shopping....but I've come to appreciate it deeply over the last 4 years.

Fact is most people the world over spend their entire lives within a sixty mile radius from the place of their birth.

Agreed. But I've well filled my quota and would be content to never move again after I get the frick out of DC/Northern Virginia.

Yep, I would have to sit down with pen and paper to recall how many times I've moved, and I have friends that have never cut the umbilical. Sometimes I wonder if it was all worth it, but no regrets.

Ain't that the truth. I moved from Nashville to BR, spent some time in Orange Beach, back to BR, then to Nola. Recently moved back to Nashville after 11 years of being away and couldn't be happier. I don't plan on going anywhere else.
