For Fed.Gov work, which is why I got it, I was stupefied why I had multiple Cisco and Microsoft certs, but nobody would hire me unless I had a degree in anything. My DC Net Admin took a battery out of our data center to go frog gigging on the regular, but you tell me I need a degree to administer GPOs after doing it for years?

I have serious issues (belongs in Travel) whether I love the 787 or the 747-800 more (777-200 is ole reliable). I lied, 747 of any type rules the world (not shitting on your career). 777 over 757/767/A330/A340 all day.
But 787...Especially ANA with the cool livery and the balls out staff... The Queen 747-800 has a lifetime shorter than other airframes, so I'm going to jam my fricking kids on as many as I can. 777Tiger, I'm starting to understand to why we're intoxicated in the middle of the week at the same time.
The FRA senator lounge where you're looking out at nothing but 747/A380 makes you feel like a character in a TV show. FRA can f* off with their "bathrooms." You don't put four shitters ever four gates for international flights. Unless you're Newark or Chicago.

Would have gone USAF instead, and highly questioned going to college... instead become an electrician and open a business..

All of this.

I should have been a finance major and partied my arse off instead of being a strung out engineering major who constantly thought he was going to bomb out ?.
Eta: if money really didn't matter I would have studied history.

But finance drags you to NYC, Chicago, or California. Finance means crushing hours, high taxes, and cocaine to deal with it. Eventually you get out of the big 4, you move to Houston, Austin, or Denver, and get laid off two years after your (insert smart financial a-hole stuff here) and yay?

I love how specific this is.

Some type of engineering. Scrolling through job postings within my company, that's the bulk of what I see available; mech, chem, civil, etc.

Honestly...I'd have went to trade school to be a plumber, did some night school...owned my own business.
This ultimately is the answer. Many alternative careers I see posted on here could very well become a thing of the past with our lightning quick pace into the AI world. One thing I am certain of and that is skilled tradesmen are in short supply and it doesn’t look like that will change in the near future. As pointed out a skilled craftsman that shows up at the appointed time and does really good work and cleans up after themselves will have more that buckets of cash …will be truck loads of cash. AI will be able to do many things but show up , diagnose and physically repair something at a home or business is not going to happen anytime soon. Take this advice young OTers this is sitting right in front of you. Go learn a trade and retire much earlier than most of us old OTers.

I’d start with just going to fricking class.

I’d skip college and go directly to flight school

Commodities trading my friend.
Or just sell commercial insurance, why did no one tell me about that when I was younger.

Reading the conversations the pilots are having in this thread makes me question my entire career

Would have skipped college and got a realtors license and flipped houses. Can you get a realtors license in college?

Major in Finance and minor in Marketing
ETA; IF I knew then what I know now I would have spent my HS summers framing houses, then did some trim work, then ac and electric, then plumbing. When I hit my mid 20s start my own home contracting company. Build 10-12 houses a year and live a nice life.

Accountancy. Jobs always available. Ability to work remotely. Like working a puzzle at times.
