My nephew was going to be a freshman at MSU and paying out of state tuition this year. They expected it would be online classes so he is taking classes at a community college down the street now.

I do feel bad for people that have student loans and are having to take classes online. I do see something good coming out of this. If you have recorded classes, do you really need to have all the professors on staff? Will you start to see professors working for multiple universities if it's all going to be recorded classes? Great way to provide an affordable option for people that prefer online classes.

Are you under the impression that because tigerland is closed, college kids are just hanging out alone at home/dorms?

House parties > the bar any day of the week. If you strike out at a house party just drop out.

You can also take CLEP exams. Some universities offer them for free, if not you probably pay max $80.

You only need a certain score to just get a Pass. It's no different than getting credit for an AP course.

Most people with a functioning brain can look over material and pass these exams because they are basic low level classes you'd be taking as a freshman,or testing out of anyway.

Because if you went to some small CC for 2 years then you'd miss out on some of the best parties of your life!!!!

Exactly why it needs to be stopped! Only way to stop it is for some attorneys to sue them to make them stop.
If we'd have known for sure this were going to happen, may have had our son sit out this semester.

All basic courses are the same at every university.

Can you, with a straight face, say the average freshman classes at a CC are remotely near as rigorous as the same ones at a flagship state school not to mention top universities. For most of the highly qualified freshman, CC would be a complete waste of time.

Well, for most kids who go to those schools, it's not their money, it's Dad's money.

Why? Just to save money or do you have other reasons?

As a parent that put several kids through college, I can’t think of any other reason that actually matters.

Can't have that on the resume. Why not take a gap year or two?

You aren't gettin into Cooley Law or St. George's med school with community college credits on your transcript, son.

Only exception to this would be scholarship recipients as they have rules on number of semesters available. Now possibly someone could petition to extend this. My daughter (yeah no pics) is at LSU from out of state and there are strict rules on her academic scholarship as to the number of semesters they offer her.

Because with CC credits you would be overqualified for either of those. They look for prison GEDs.

Or do a gap year with a job or a paid/unpaid internship. That’s what I’d recommend to pretty much everyone in college that can do it.
