Another problem: try cross examining a pastor of any church and you’ll quickly realize he’s cognitively impaired.
But that truly helps him believe what he’s saying, reinforcing his confidence, and then the group think follows along making it not a very popular choice to question him, and thus reinforcing the snowball effect confidence. …and if you admit it, losing your social network.
Seriously folks, none of us has answers to the meaning of life, just live with it and form your own path. Life is scary, just deal with it, and protect those you care about.

If there is no heaven or hell, your life has no meaning. You're no different than the squirrel you hran over on your way home. You die, you're forgotten after a couple of generations, and your entire life was a waste of time.

The difference is not that believers understand the stakes while nonbelievers have somehow overlooked them and just haven't realized hell is hot. We simply have not found sufficient evidence of a god actively invested in our lives to produce genuine faith or belief. Fear of the alternative cannot make a proposition true or force someone to believe it.
And even if your squirrel analogy is literally correct, it does not follow that life is meaningless. Meaning does not require permanence. You can still live well, love people, reduce suffering, and leave those around you better than you found them. In fact, believing this may be your only opportunity to do those things can potentially make the life you have more valuable.
