That glove didn’t actually fit FWIW. It was the worst mistake the prosecution made, and that’s saying a lot.

(which is just plain scary that he can put that personality on whenever he wants)

When he got arrested in Vegas for the memorabilia theft (you know, the one thing he actually did time for) A reporter tried to get a comment from him about the arrest. He said, "Hey, I thought what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?"

It was funny. As Jim Rome has said many times about the juice, "If he wasnt the worst guy ever he would be the best guy ever"

The trial was aired worldwide. He is arguably more famous because of the murders.

No OJ murders, very possible we would have never known the Kardashian clan. Damn you, Juice.

No way he would be the "most famous person on Earth". First off he played American Football in the 60's/70's. Rest of world wouldn't have heard about him or cared and people in America, who were not at least born in the 60's, would not remember his on field accolades. Most would remember him as minor characters in movies. Definitely not a box office Superstar. Again, rest of world wouldn't care unless he was a blockbuster leading man

So take away his murders as you propose. He was still a wife beater and abuser. This is who you love and admire?

think the murders, police chase, and trial made him the most famous.

It’s certainly what he’s known for today but he was pretty iconic prior to them - which I think a lot of folks (especially younger) don’t realize.

Kinda like a poster who doesn't post every stupid thought he has.

If OJ was not one of the most famous people on earth, he would not have thought he could get away with the murders.

You think that incident made him less famous?

In this day and age on the Internet, OJ wouldn’t have been able to hide that he was a serial wife beater. So he’d in the very least still be very famous for torturing his wives and girlfriends.

Could he have been Governor of California before Arnold Schwarzenegger, then maybe be the first Obama? Never know

Bold of you to assume that the murders aren't the reason 75% of non-sports fans now know who he is. If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit.

OP is 100% correct, by the way. A lot people in this thread too young to remember OJ prior to the murder as well as general race relations at that time.

By the late 80s/early 90s, racial attitudes had progressed to the point where the vast majority of white people personally didn’t think/feel racist toward blacks, yet there was still a bigger black/white divide in both cultural and everyday American life. OJ was one of the few black people who appealed to whites people without losing his “blackness.” He made white America feel comfortable with “a black dude.” On top of that he was incredibly charming, though now we realize probably in the way that sociopaths can be charming.

In other words, the dude had a golden ticket to superstardom and universal renown. So maybe OP used the word “famous” wrong, but his point remains correct IMO.

OJ is way more famous now. Before the murders he was a B list celebrity at best.

I’d like to say the 1989 allegations alone would keep him out of the governorship and certainly the Presidency, but it was such an open secret in Hollywood and the sports world that OJ was a wife beater. Like Keith Olbermann immediately called the police when he found out Nicole was dead and says it may be the biggest regret of his life by not exposing OJ for who he truly was years earlier.
