The crane part was from an early post/reply when someone showed a video of what looked like a multi-family construction project not taking down it’s one crane. We aren’t even on the coast and took all ours down yesterday. Already have all our GCs ready to collect info on storm damages for insurance.

quote:Very much false. Cat 1 or Cat 5 makes no difference on your hurricane deductible. The only time the classification of a tropical storm changes your deductible is if the storm's classification goes from Tropical Storm to Hurricane...that makes the difference between a hurricane deductible or all other peril deductible being applied. Cat 5 hurricane would carry exact same deductible as a Cat 1-4
Anyone know if this is true:
With a Cat 5 designation a homeowner's insurance would be liable for the total damages. Cat 4 or lower, most homeowners are on the hook for a percentage. If a Cat 4 storm is subsequently re-evaluated as a 5, but that reclassification happens after the "window" for claims, homeowners are not refunded for their deductibles.

Bought a 2016 34' Regulator that went under water during Harvey. Paid 14k. Spent a little under 60k re-powering, re-wiring, new electronics and a little fiberglass work. Boat ran great until I sold it 2 years later.
I’ve thought about buying one of those nice fishing boats from a hurricane salvage. Find one with no hull damage and just tear the engines down and replace the internal components, rip out upholstery and have it redone and replace necessary electronics. Could get a half million dollar boat for 80k or so. I can do a lot of the work myself

IDK even know what to say ... I'm so sorry. Was it his home home or summer type home?
If the water goes out quick enough and they can get in quick enough to get the "wet stuff" out, I wonder if it can be salvaged? At least some??
Thanks man, it's his winter home so he's still up in WI. I know it was a bunch of pages ago, but he doesn't have homeowners either. Hasn't for about 20 years. He's super handy and my brother could likely help him, but facing a big and potentially really expensive project. Just need this backside to start pulling water back out, which I don't think it will because they were both just barely on the fricking south side of the eye (though it pretty much went over the top of dad).

Just stayed within the eyewall the entire time Ian was coming on shore.
That was us for Ida. Pounded for hours on end in the northeastern eye wall. 140 MPH.

Does it really matter if the water is there for 1 hour or 10 hours? If its 8' or more I don't think it would make a difference.
Many homes in St Bernard had more than that and they gutted them to the studs and just repaired them. Sure, plenty were torn down but it seems like the ones that were not are doing just fine.

Unfortunately, this is when most of the damage from flooding occurs. Plus everything out with it and tears everything up.

The heavy rain corridor is starting to take shape. Here’s an accumulation gif for those of you in Florida worried about heavy rain.
You can extrapolate this out in the direction of motion to see if you are in the path.
Tampa looks pretty clear.

Looks like it's going to go right over Disney.

Not sure who it was questioning that downtown Fort Myers wouldn't flood, but here it is. And it's still rising.
It was deeprig9, I think. It was always inevitable that once the Caloosahatchie river got over the breakwall, it would flood and flood fast. My office is right across the street from that Edison bank. Good news is, maybe those crappy tourist traps like Ford's Garage and Capone's won't re-open
