Where does she live?
She mentioned Bonita Springs in her post. That is just south of Fort Myers. It is close to where Ian made landfall.

Night hurricanes are the worst.
The mornings after are surreal

I remember after IDA stepping out in the morning to this weird calm, surrounded by destruction, and the sky putting a grey haze over everything. It was like you were in the moment but not really. Like when you aren't sure if a dream was a dream yet

Every body just standing outside looking, like did that really just happen?

Last post from liz18lsu was several hours ago. This came ashore near her place

She is aboot 25-30 miles from ground zero. Her parents moved to ground zero a few years back.

We are pulling close to 30, with the occasional 50+ gusts.

How your during down there?

I did recall having a 2% deductible pre-Ivan and I was inland. I haven't seen 2% since I moved, but unfortunately now I am with Citizens so I don't have a friggin choice.

Ah, yeah....Citizens definitely has a higher percentage of 5% hurricane deductible policies although I suspect that most people elect to get the larger deductible for a reduced premium. Citizens policies aren't cheap. Are you telling me they won't offer you a 2% deductible policy?

Doing all right. Same situation as yours. High winds and rain. Still (fortunately) have power. Huge fan of FPL.

Some of those spots in Fort Meyers didn't even get a small relief with the eye. Just stayed within the eyewall the entire time Ian was coming on shore.

with a salvage title for salt water. Anyone with a brain knows to avoid those. You will be replacing electronics every month or so until you just set it on fire

Bought a 2016 34' Regulator that went under water during Harvey. Paid 14k. Spent a little under 60k re-powering, re-wiring, new electronics and a little fiberglass work. Boat ran great until I sold it 2 years later.

Just got word that dad's place in CC is still there, but has water throughout. Brother's place in the Fort has water in the garage up to second step.

Right up I-75 from it. Thought it was going to make landfall here in the Tampa area. Landed by liz down in the Fort Myers area instead. Raining and gusts of wind. But we are doing fine.

ETA: Our street right now.

One thing that the area has going for it - south Florida has had very tough building codes since Hurricane Andrew. Hurricane straps, wind rated windows, shear walls, and often structural masonry construction on residential buildings.

I'm keeping y'all in our prayers. Florida seems to be prepared but this is one damn powerful storm.

IDK even know what to say ... I'm so sorry. Was it his home home or summer type home?

If the water goes out quick enough and they can get in quick enough to get the "wet stuff" out, I wonder if it can be salvaged? At least some??

You are correct sir. I have been through Irma, Maria, had Michael pass by and now Ian. I am impressed with new home construction. Solid.
