Lulz. I see you two are avoiding the topic of human ownership.

The war was lost. The confeds were the 19th century version of ISIS. Time to move on. Continuing slavery was not a good idea, and there is no way to spin it. Be glad the stars and strips beat oppression.

ere comes the dumbass people trying to justify a small group of people owning humans for personal gain. You are the one that needs to study history
Yet all white people are hated and blamed for slavery? Interesting how generalizing groups works in favor of others, but its racist when white people do it. I would love to see the age when all races are equally held accountable for their comments and actions.
I'm quite sure I will never live to see it.

General / President fricking Grant participated in human ownership. You going to start ripping up all your $50 bills?
Ready to march on the Jefferson Monument?
Quit applying 21st century morals to the 19th Century. 98%+ of all whites in North America in the 19th Century would be considered racists today.

I will agree with you there. Most white people during that time were too poor to own anything. The ruling class wanted to protect their cash crop, and economy. They forced the majority of people to fight their cause.

I am more concerned about the 1st Amendment issues with the current flag debacle.
But, I will humor you and note that Union did in fact permit slavery at the time of the war and in fact longer than is was legal in the south. The Emancipation Proclamation, for example, did not free slaves in the North. Only the South. So hey, lets ban the US flag as well. Of course human ownership is evil, and ultimately would have been abolished in the South, even had the South been victorious.

My family are french and german immigrants. They were poor and owned farms (which they tended on their own) as well as working for the railroad.
When slavery began mine, and many other families didn't even exist in this country.
It really is a tired argument. Everyone knows slavery was bad. But salvery and bondage are not limiting anyone now. Any limitations are self imposed, andd that goes for any race.
I went to New Orleans public school for half my life. Evan in grade school iwas called what many would consider racil epitets. White Boy, Cracker, etc. I just kept on. Now show on the other foot, I call anyone anything and i'm likely getting mobbed and beaten. Why does it go one way and not the other.
Acceptance of actions from both siddes wouldd go a longer way than anything.
A lot even goes back to the family that had the mother and father beaten to death or half to death out on Plank for being in the wrong neighborhood. That was simply put, a hate crime. Yet no one cared. Turn that around, we have the black caucus and rainbow coalition leading rallies at the state capital then next day.

I was on the phone with somebody when he was in front of me so I couldn't get one. But here was there. Wasn't smiling. Must be sad that this is one battle that he can't fight over anymore.

Jesse is from SC. So, I guess it is ok that here was at the lowering.

You are getting on a tangent. Being called a cracker is not the same as a self proclaimed government trying to expand slavery. Yes, it was legal within the union, but the swing to make it illegal was under way, and that part of the constitution was ignored in the northern states. If Lincoln had let the Confeds continue slavery, he would have been on all of the 1860 pres ballots, and the southern states would have recognized him.

Why does there need to be be an attention whoring ceremony? Why couldn't they just send someone out there late last night to take it down and be done with it?
