Murdock still hasn't been able to tell me why my post was so stupid....
I'd love his insight.

Why does there need to be be an attention whoring ceremony? Why couldn't they just send someone out there late last night to take it down and be done with it?
To be fair, it wasn't much a ceremony.
A police honor guard walked to the flag, they lowered the flag, they folded the flag, they gave the flag to someone, they walked away.
Done. No speeches. No music.

I wish all those people that were out there watching the taking down of a "racist" flag and celebrating the removal of it would put just as much energy and effort in finding a job.

Booom!
One problem you didn't address is "Hey, y'all like all this free shite"?
"Well vote for me and I'll get you even more"...aka Mary Landrieu etc, etc...

Murdock, please explain why my post (copied below) is so ignorant. Thanks.

I stood next to some transplant SC residents from New York and Michigan that held pretty ignorant opinions of that flag and the state of SC (they said that they urged their children to leave the state...wouldn't you want your children to stay and try to make the state better instead of running away?).

Interesting. It sounds like these yankee transplants who probably think they are the anti-racist moral standard are about to commit one of the most racist actions - White Flight.
Their hypocrisy is laughable.

Your white flight is racist statement is just ridiculous. Gentrification is also racist. Well what is it? Is coming or going racist?
People don't want to live in crime infested areas with declining property values. Is it racist to move to a safer neighborhood? Is it racist to protect ones financial investment in a home?

dear politicians- thanks for the slight of hand. NOW: balance your checkbook, keep the road I go to work on in good shape, make everyone in this country pay taxes, help those that truly need it learn to do for themselves, then shut the frick up about everything else.
PS- nola check your murder rate and then get back to me on your priorities.

A great day in South Carolina. The simple act of taking down a flag single handily puts an end to racism in SC. Should have thought about that simple remedy before now.
Politicians and the people that make their livelihood peddling the business of racism and prejudice can now check the box. They can say they "did" something.
Sadly, while this act is symbolic, people miss the point that the deranged haters like Dylan Roof go on about their business and that flag still flies in these folks homes and on their property. Further, people like Roof aren't motivated by a flag. No, they are motivated by a deep ceded hatred born from god knows what influences in their lives. Taking down the flag, while making some folks feel victorious, is an extremely brief win and does little to nothing to deal with the problem as people like Roof will always exist, whether the victims are black, white, Jewish, Muslim, etc. Unfortunately, you can't wipe the earth of hate as it is as old as time.

What is interesting is that if the lowering were put to a vote, it would most likely lose. The proponents of lowering the flag were incredibly against a referendum. They knew that the people wouldn't have voted for it.

Not wanting to be robbed or murdered is not being racist.

Murdock, I think my original post went over your head or you misunderstood what I was saying.
I was pointing out that I found it ridiculous that northern transplants would support the lowering of the flag while ignorantly insulting the south while at the same time make a statement about discouraging others from living there due to white racists.
Think about it...the northern transplants feel free to criticize the white southern heritage and celebrate the lowering of the flag (which should be a victory for the northerners and thus strengthen their resolve to live there) but at the same time they complain about living there, would like to move away, and discourage others from moving to the state.
They want to flee what they are fighting for. It's hypocrisy and doesn't make sense.
They, not me, are ignorant racists.

FIFY. Overwhelming support for its removal from both sides down here in the low country.
I have no problem with the flag one way or the other but fact is it is a symbol of hate for over 30% of the population. Right wrong or indifferent it doesn't matter. That flag has been stolen by hate groups and now represents that hate to a large populace of SC.
It is what it is.
