The colors of the ones in the late 80s were so cool. Puke green and burnt orange.

I had a 1968 Ford Ranchero that I paid one dollar for. Yep. One dollar. I bought a $35 battery and off I went for 3 years. I turned on the radio and counted to 27 and it came on.
Notoco used to have a fleet of El Camino’s in the vert early 80’s.

I grew up when every other dad had an el Camino. They ain't that great. They crapped out after 50k miles and nobody ever hauled anything in the back.

My bro in law actually has every body style, all custom engines etc... they sit right next to his special edition Mercedes, Rolls and Bentley’s in the car barn. It’s very weird
I drove one for about 18 months back in the day. Fun vehicle.

In America (where we speak English) it's called The Camino.

Well here in America now where everything old is new again, I am sure someone in Detroit is working on a new line of El Camino Z71 High Country with 4 doors and with 120 month financing for sticker price of just under 100k. Truck nuts not included of course, but a sissy step is included.
In reality, I don’t know for sure if this is happening, but if you look at some recent SUV redesigns such as the Ford Explorer where they lowered the body from a high truck like ride to a much lower crossover type of vehicle, I could see someone making a truck using that height.

I actually saw one the other day; told my 11 y/o that would be a cool car for him to have in high school. Of course i'd get to drive it too.

As with most 70’ era vehicles, they would never see 100k miles like current vehicles. However, they were a nice xover before that was even a category. The 70 SS 454 was a badass, just like its Chevelle brother. The 77 SS wasn’t a performer but was a very nice vehicle. Loaded with all creature comforts, even swivel bucket seats to ease ingress/egress. Overall, sweet vehicles and def have a cult following.

Dad had one. I remember there was an area behind the front seats that had food out seats. They folded out from the sides so you were sitting perpendicular with the people up front.

I owned a 72 El Camino in the early to mid eighties while I was in high school. I took that sucker, painted it 79 corvette red with fine gold dust, added rims, air shocks, and totally rebuilt the engine. Made a 350 that would run around 11.00 in the quarter and won quite a bit of money red light to red light around baton rouge in the 84-85 time frame.
Would love to have that car back. I have been looking on some ad sites and for a rusted out junker that would need total restoration is running anywhere from 6-10 thousand. I sold my car in 87 for $500 due to a trashed transmission.
I know CSB but I really liked the car.

Next year is the 60th anniversary and it was a pretty versatile vehicle. Lose the air shocks, add air bags and the F41 suspension and you have a great car/truck ride
Funny how manufacturers are now trying to make SUVs and P/U's ride like cars.

Ford...no.
Not sure if that was a downvote for Ford's alternative in the Ranchero. I got a deal on one that I couldn't pass up back in 78 on a 75 Ranchero with under 20K miles, 351 Windsor engine, C-4 auto transmission (would have preferred standard), power steering and brakes, A/C but only an AM/FM radio later upgraded to a radio/cassette player with added speakers.
Got the vehicle for $1700 and it was like new. Kept that vehicle until 95 when I bought a new pickup truck and actually gave it away to a good friend of mine who had admired it for years.
Loved driving that Ranchero and the only thing that got a bit squirrely about it was when not carrying anything in the back and driving on wet/damp roads, the back end would easily break away with little pressure on the gas pedal. It was easily one of the nicest driving vehicles I've owned and I could steer that thing with a single finger on the wheel.

Yep, kinda like the 80s model C10 pickup craze. Prices on those have gone through the roof, as well. Hindsight, I would’ve kept my black 86 Silverado Stepside. First vehicle I ever bought new. Ordered from Polk Chevrolet for the total sum of $10,996 and a monthly note of $258.40.
