Did that area get annexed into the city of BR?

It shows up on my map as StG, but the apartment complex next door is BR.

Not sure how accurate the map is.

Judging by the map on The Advocate website it is still in BR. Hilarious if StG missed out on this.

Wait. They are building 2 distribution centers in BR?

The Cortana location will be a true fulfillment center. Where inventory is stored, shipments are packed, etc.

The South BR location will be a distribution center for shipments moving through the Amazon transportation network.

Baton Rouge and St George benefit from this. Both will have an amazon facility. Win/Win. Now let us have St. George!

It looks like one regional distribution center and one local distribution center.

You think you know more than Amazon about this?

I worked for Amazon a while back. The way it will work is the St George one will be a huge distribution center for regional shipping (think like a hub for the state.) The Cortana location will be a local distribution center. So BR items will go from St G -> Cortana -> Your BR house. I don't know Amazons other smaller distribution centers in the area. If they have a NOLA distribution center then items will go St G -> NOLA -> Your NOLA house.

Either way one will be the big center, the other will be the smaller local center. Just reverse the order if I had it wrong

This guy gets it and didn't even need to RTFA. The rest of you probably just didn't bother. Reading's overrated anyway.

The site behind Bethany church is for a building less than 120,000 square feet. That's comparable to a Walmart Supercenter and is the size of a large local warehouse. Amazon's regional distribution centers range into the MILLIONS of square feet and hundreds of acres, like the Cortana site.

ETA: Fulfillment centers is what I think they actually call the huge centers they originate shipments from, not distribution centers. Either way, I can't wait for same day deliveries.

I’m in Monroe but my experience has been the complete opposite. I ordered a book Saturday night and it was on my doorstep Monday lunch. That’s pretty awesome considering Sunday all.

where did you get that assumption? i was asking what where they going to do......because i do know BR traffic sucks. Seems like reading comprehension skills have gone bye bye in recent years.

I remember reading an article more than 20 years ago about how big stores like Lowe's and home Depot coming to an area, enforce a lot of the old mom and pop businesses out, and it really turns out to be a net loss because frequently government has negotiated for lower tax basis and things like that for those big companies. We can talk about it Saturday night over dinner.

Correct. according to wikipedia, Cortana has 1,432,889 sq ft of retail floor area. Assuming they don't add on any new structures, Cortana would be 12-13 times larger than the new distribution site near bethany.

The Cortana site will be where multiple orders are consolidated. If you order items from multiple sellers they will be shipped to Cortana and put in one box for you. Then it goes to the Siegen site to be delivered locally.

I'm pretty sure the plan is to demolish the mall and build their own building

No, they are two different types of distribution centers with different purposes with one being a little over 1 million square feet (Cortana) and one being 100,000 square feet (Rieger Road).

BR Airport to Cortana is only about a 15 minute drive on a normal day. Could be 20-25 minutes in nasty traffic.

A little nudging from Amazon with setting the traffic signals on Airline Hwy. could get it down to 10 minutes I bet.
