Ok then. What are the odds amazon follows up with Cortana mall? Or just say F it, we have everything we need right here off Siegen?

I would guess the Cortana spot is cheaper than whatever they do on Siegen. It's distribution centers not a corporate campus.

Not sure Amazon gives two fricks about their employees that staff these places.

It is

Stephanie Riegel with the Daily Report told WAFB she believes Amazon would operate a smaller, regional distribution center in South Baton Rouge that would complement a larger, state-wide center at the Cortana Mall.

Wait. They are building 2 distribution centers in BR?

I worked for Amazon a while back. The way it will work is the St George one will be a huge distribution center for regional shipping (think like a hub for the state.) The Cortana location will be a local distribution center. So BR items will go from St G -> Cortana -> Your BR house. I don't know Amazons other smaller distribution centers in the area. If they have a NOLA distribution center then items will go St G -> NOLA -> Your NOLA house.

Either way one will be the big center, the other will be the smaller local center. Just reverse the order if I had it wrong

Just looking at the footprint the STG one will probably be smaller than Cortana.

The article said it would likely be the other way around - which wold make since given the location at Cortana being better for a regional hub as well as being cheaper to develop.

ETA: Do people just believe anything written in a thread title these days?

There were talks a year or so ago with Amazon having a regional hub in NOLA too. Wonder is Cortana replaces it or if that is two different regions.

I feel like the size potential would make since for Cortana to be the whole SE Louisiana and Mississippi region. Seems like it would be easier access to start in BR as opposed from starting all the way south in NOLA from a delivery standpoint.

I just wonder how the regions are split or sized. BR and NOLA could be two different regions. Nola taking all the way to Biloxi and BR still hanging on to Hammond or so. I guess that would put the hubs at the edges of the region instead of the centers though.

Amazon's logistics always amaze me.

I'm guessing they realized that the majority of Amazon customers don't live anywhere near Cortana mall........

Closer to airport which logistically makes sense. They can just take 190 from BTR to Cortana. Then right on I-12 from 190. It’s a great spot for them

Someone said in another thread that the footprint of the old MSY terminal would make for a great distribution center for Amazon, as they could park the planes right up against the facility.

Sure seems like Amazon prime is struggling. I've had a number of packages delivered a day or so late, and just this month, 3 out of 8 packages have had the wrong items. Amazon, to their credit, immediately fixes the problem and sends out the correct item while sending us a return link. But the number of delays / mistakes makes me think they need more capacity in S. LA.

Amazon is trying to become its own logistics company.

It seems a good time for a few people who want to be automation/instrumentation techs.
