re: I think I’d rather have a root canal before going back to Buc-ee’s in Gulf Shores.

I mean, the ones randomly out on the interstate away from the tourist areas are really nice rest stops.
The one referenced in the OP is just awful, so I get people bashing it if that's the only location they've been to. The infrastructure around it just isn't capable of handling the summer travel traffic and it's a major PITA getting in and out of it. The one that just opened outside of Birmingham is a breeze to get in and out of, so I get a lot of the appeal of it based on going there. If I never go to that south Alabama one again, it'll be too soon.

i had trouble getting into the driveway, so we just bypassed it, and went to the loves at exit 44.

They are all like that when they open.

Their Brisket/BBQ is Grade-A Trash.
Yeah, it's not that good. There are much better options here in Texas.
The homemade chips, club sandwiches, and breakfast tacos are fricking legit though.
Edit: Fudge is really good too. Love the jalapeno peanut brittle as well. They have lots of really good food options, but the pre-made BBQ sandwiches aren't that great.

I don't get the Buc-ee's love.
It's like you mix a giant roadside flea market with a Wal-Mart and throw some gas pumps in for kicks.
I guess with all the Chuckee Cheeses shut down, balance had to be restored to the universe somehow.

I go in the bathroom at the Shell and somebody had upperdecked the toilet. Literal log of shite sitting on the toilet and smeared all over the seat. I mentioned it to the store clerk and they were indifferent.
You just described half the gas stations in La. I consider it a lucky break if I walk in a restroom at one and there is toilet paper and there is no water on the floor from a clogged toilet.

I wouldn't get a root canal, but I as well as every other person I talked to that has gone or tried to go there agrees it is just madness. Parking lot and the overall building is way too small and location that close to an off ramp is terrible.

I used to hate Buc-ees until I had kids. Now, my 4 year old will go in there and spend 20 minutes picking out a toy, t-shirt or something else. It's always a fun experience for her.
I went to the one close to GS about 3 weeks ago on a Friday and it was exactly like OP said. A thousand people being herded in like cattle. Lines moved quick, but traffic out the arse. If I am ever by myself, no chance I'm stopping there, but if I have the family with me, we always gotta stop and get some nuggets and a toy.

A couple of years ago I stopped at that Buc-ees and got a brisket sandwich. Didn’t make it too far down the road before I had to shite, so I u-turned and headed back to Buc-ees. After the shite, I was hungry again so I grabbed another sandwich on my way out. I’ve been caught in that same loop ever since. That’s how they get you.

You have to go when it's not so crowded. Duh.

anyone who stops at buccee's is looking for a 1 hour pit stop...to expect anything less is just dumb...almost as dumb as wasting time at a buccees

I was there fathers day weekend and while it was packed it really wasn't that bad.
I wait longer at the grocery with way less people. Because the jerk offs have one lane open.

I went to the Buccees in Alabama on a Sunday, on the way to Florida last month...it was ridiculously crowded...only went there for bathroom and food...
Most of the vehicles trying to get into the parking lot were going in the first entrance...tip: go around them and go in the second entrance in the back...you will save a lot of time.

What a clusterfrick!!! I’ve been to the ones in TX, they were nothing like the one in GS. The poor employees couldn’t get the sandwiches out fast enough. Checkout lines were 10 deep.
Same thing I said. I was driving thru around 12 on Sunday and it was awful. Won't be going back. Should have had ability to get to the location directly from the i10. Had to go all the way to the back and then come in. Should be setup like the one in Katy. I realize there are shite tons more people but still.

And it's good to see that most everyone on this board knows about Buc-ees due to a stop in Alabama on the way to or from the beach. During the summer. On a Saturday or Sunday.

Stopped in the winter during a weekday....wasn't that it was a shite show, it's just too big and too much traffic to be the quick in and out I look for when stopping on a roadtrip
