I miss Louisiana

I just got home from a lovely evening of drinking. I get out of my truck at home and get a whiff of petroleum gas coming from the storm drain. It’s the exact same smell I would encounter when I’d fill up with gas at exit 21 in Sulphur.
It may not be pretty, but that too was a smell of ‘home’. I spent some glorious years of my life there. It was nice walking up on a Saturday in Spring ready for a game at the Box.
I miss the keg parties at the house, and the noisy crickets at night.
I miss the ladies at Spanish Moon on a Thursday night, and a Tiger Stadium ready for prime time in the fall.
I miss getting pasta for lunch in the Student Union and the loaded hash browns at Louie’s.
I miss that dirty bastard that owned Roul’s and a Sunday lunch at chimes with a girl that I met the Thursday before...thankfully she gave me at least a handy that night.
Damnit, it has its flaws, and it ain’t perfect, but I miss that place.

Miss sitting in traffic at 5pm?
and the culcha looking in your bedroom window?
..but for real, smoked boudin and non Chinese crawfish are something that I miss when in Oregon

Maybe it does suck. The traffic is bad.
But it’s still part of what means ‘home’ for me. The people are genuine. I met many great people over there: lifelong friends and people I consider family. The bad traffic doesn’t interfere with the stately oaks and broad magnolias.
The ‘culcha’ is rough, but it doesn’t completely eliminate the charm of the Quarter and perseverance of the Big Easy.

And the shooting deaths that happen north of Florida Blvd. You left that out

I’ll be honest. There’s a lot of shite wrong with BR and LA as a whole. I won’t deny it.
There’s also a culture that is matched by few, and festive attitude unrivaled by any state. Louisiana better know how to kick back and relax with all of the negativity going on within.
I’ll take a New Orleans Mardi Gras over a San Antonio Fiesta. Give me a table covered in crawfish. Maybe the Tigers aren’t national champs every year, but I’ll take tailgating with friends over the alternative.

That could definitely be it. I’d like to think I had enough interest in some other things Louisiana had to offer, though

I lived on east coast for 7 years and moved back, people were not as friendly, no unity... best and only thing good about LA are the people/family, food, outdoor opportunities, LSU/saints and United passion about said things... Louisiana passion can’t be duplicated. I think the passion of the people and definitely not the politicians are only reason this state still exists otherwise there is no reason to stay. I do love the LA uniqueness, would move away again in an instant though

Honestly I agree. People that move like to talk about how much of a shite hole La is but god damn I miss this shite hole. Yeah it’s trash but it’s our trash. Be there in 5 hours and I can’t wait.

I don't miss a thing about LA except my remaining family and the food.

while there is no place like home, there is a big world out there, embrace it...
