21 is the time to do dumb stuff, like live in a coffin because it’s in a cool neighborhood.

My first apartment in Japan had a bathroom like that. But it was more than double the width. Toilet side of the room was usually dry. Enough room for the washing machine too.

That apartment is so pitiful that the homeless give her money.

In 1990, when I moved back to Arizona from Connecticut, my apartment in Phoenix was less per month than my buddy's parking space in New York City. And, his parking space wasn't even near his apartment. Anytime he wanted to drive anywhere, he had to jump on the subway to go get his car in his parking space.

Looool at first I was disappointed that you didn't include pictures of the rest of the living space. Then I realized

The stuffed animals are there to comfort you as you cry yourself to sleep when thinking how you pay $1,345/month for a 72-sqft apartment.

Even Harry Potter feels sorry for this dumbass and he lived in a closet under a fricking staircase.

Imagine the winter in NYC with that being your refuge

NE and upper mid-West cities don't shut down because it gets a little chilly. Maybe for a half or a whole day if a nor'easter dumps 18+ inches overnight but most people here could waste a day on TD without moving from their chair.

My sister lived in a place slightly larger than that while in college in downtown Chicago, and she had a roommate.

I went to visit and slept on the floor by the door.

They could see Oprah’s penthouse in the next building.

Back in the day there were places on Chimes with no running water for $60 a month. You’d just hike over to stadium dorms to shower.

I had a Ghetto place with a loft in the attic. Price was up to $90 with gas and water included when I rented. Great community.

But realistically I can’t think of many worse situations to live for an able bodied adult

Our own city provides worse living situations. 900 a month gets you a former/current crackhouse in central city where you have a ~20% chance of either getting shot or seeing someone else get shot every time you walk out of your door.

You’d rather living in the southside of chicago then the apt in the OP? Detroit slums? Baltimore?

I wouldn’t live in the OP apartment. No way. But you’re out of your mind if that’s “the worst living situation I can imagine”

72-square-foot apartment

American Correctional Association standards call for jail cells to be 70 square feet.

EDIT: I see I'm not the only one who read that Wikipedia entry.

My niece had a new apartment in NY that was nicer and bigger and it was $1600/month. It had a nice kitchen, bathroom and living area. She had one of those large Ikea metal bunk beds. Her mom and her slept on the top and my wife and I slept on the bottom.
