So japan is higher taxed and gets more back for it? Interesting.
I was merely pointing out that they CLEARLY get a better bang for their buck.
quote:Well, no, because we know how poorly it is spent already.
Personally I don't think anyone would go for having higher taxes even if there was more in return.
As the OP points out, we give much more and get less in return, therefore we will fight any additional amount being asked for because we know that an additional amount will just be wasted or stolen.
And, like I said, politicians in America are rarely punished.

An example of how well-run the trains are in Japan is the following:

America made Japan better in 1945.

Replace "oppressive" with "polite" and you may make some headway.

Our governments, from the top down are a joke. They spend money like its flowing water. Elected officials spend based on their priorities and not whats best for the people that money comes from, etc. And its the voters fault. People are afraid to get rid of the statue quo. Anyone who can raise enough money can get in office and do whatever they want, tell the people whatever they want to hear. If there are problems blame it on others. Tokyo probably has voters who are more likely to vote smarter.

I gave examples where the taxes are delivering exactly what they should and people votes against more improvements.
We in fact do not give more. That is just factually incorrect.

A bit myopic of a viewpoint and example, don’t you think?
How about the state of LA funding a new MS river bridge?
I’m sure an increase in state taxes will go over well for that if asked for because LA has managed roads very well.
The fact is, US citizens get a very poor return for their taxes, at every level of government.
If the US government, state governments, and city governments ran with the same efficiency and professionalism of the Japanese, I would gladly pay more in taxes.
As a matter of fact, I will make that my defining line.
When that happens, let me know and I’ll stop opposing all tax increases out of principle.

I am guessing that you wouldn't live there and maybe that is why Tokyo is such an awesome place.

Guess it isn't just a US thing.

they are one of the top areas in the state and everyone still complains they don't want higher taxes. Last year Livingston voted against pay raises for teachers and there schools are up there with the best.
Paying more doesn’t mean more you get improvements like you stated. Having some success doesn’t mean that they aren’t paying too much in taxes for that success.

No doubt Tokyo astronomically more efficient than NYC. I'm not sure how Japanese federalism works compared to ours. Does the national government there foot a bigger or smaller portion of the bill?

Look at How many NGOs and BS hand out programs NYC has vs Tokyo. Thats part of the problem

Only TD.com would blame the NYC budget on black people. Shameful.
