The only aspect of the discussion that I care about is that we pay exorbitant taxes with a return far less than it should be. We should have infrastructure on par with, if not better than, Japan.
Arent most infrastructure projects of note, big bridges and like, built with user feers and bonds and not income taxes?

My son was blown away by how clean and safe Tokyo was when he went there for business.

If I didn't have to pay so much in taxes for SS/Medicare/Medicaid all these years, I'd be "rich" to afford such things, let alone after 20-30 more years of compound interest and contributions.

I would sign away my ability to ever receive those in a heartbeat if it meant I never contributed another dime to them.

A NYC cop with something like 15 years on the job can earn 250 plus and even more after overtime. I bet Tokyo cops dont have that.
OTOH, I bet the Tokyo cop isn't worried about getting shot or run over/dragged when making a routine traffic stop. That's one reason we need to pay cops so much, who the hell wants that job here in a major US city?
I'm not saying that's the whole story, but it's part of it.

I would too, but you have too many people who expect this fantasy repayment to ever get that movement going. They sabotage the conversation from the outset.
