2015 with 35's. Could hardly get ove 55 mph on Saturday in ro the wind.
The TJ had the inline 6 and 33's and would go as fast as I dare with a lift and tires. That engine was a beast!

Not possible. OBJ is very good at just about everything.

But I've been pleasantly surprised at how smooth it's been as an everyday commuter.

Got an 07 JK here, 2 door base model. It's my first one and I love it- but yeah, there are repairs that have come about that I am not used to. I came from a line of Toyotas that never needed working on (seems like it anyway) before this.
My interior is NOT waterproof. Mine is a daily driver, and I only put 31's on it for better gas mileage.
Love taking the top and doors off and riding. Fun driving vehicle. I took the stock wheels off and put Rubicon wheels on, improved the look greatly. The new models coming off the line look way more awesome than what I drive now, and I'm jealous.

Current JKU owner, had TJ and YJ in the past.
True. Out of the box the Jeep is vary capable. You will hardly find a moment you need lockers engaged, although when you do need them they are awesome. Add some bigger tires can get you places easily with an open diff and Jeeps also come with brake lock differentials that might come in handy of stuck. If you are truly going to rock climb, after market locker and/or beefier axle.
All Jeeps retain value, but it is better as you go up. Rubicons retain best, then Sahara.
If Bob is getting a 2door - 2.5", 4 door 3.5". Do not go larger than 35" tires, unless you want to spend a lot more money. You will need to replace wheels or run wheel spacers for 35x12.5 tires, but please do not run black wheels and black sidewall tires. Every Jeep out there goes for that dang tactical look .
IMO - best lifts are Metalcloak and Rock Krawler if you are pretty serious about beating the Jeep up. Others here will disagree with me though. I run a Metalcloack 3.5" Rocksport gamechanger.
Frick no. If they get wet, things quit working and it begins to stink.
Nothing more American than a Jeep

- my friend, Bob (not his real name), didn't need the off-roading capabilities of a Rubicon, so he went with the Sahara...but let's say down the road, he wants to take this thing to do some serious off-roading...it is my understanding that any Sport or Sahara could be given some modifications to give it Rubicon rock-climbing capabilities...is this true?

- What are the most common modifications that you would recommend to a new Wrangler owner? I have told Bob to get 35" tires with black wheels (with 2.5" lift) and maybe get steel bumpers. What else?

With about $3-4k, you could have something much more capable than a factory rubicon, FWIW
Id like to know where these numbers come from. You're looking at over 10 K just to make it equal to a rubicon

ANyone have this on their Jeep? sounds cool:
Selec-Trac Full Time 4WD System
The new Selec-Trac® Full-Time Four-Wheel-Drive System includes a 2.72:1 low range. This two-speed, active full-time system includes a 4H AUTO mode that requires no driver input for any driving conditions. In 4H AUTO, 4WD is automatically engaged and disengaged as needed to maintain traction.

Lockers, gearing, axle shafts, a few braces, and tires will make it more capable

"Equal" to a bunch of useless aspects
The 44 and the 30 are practically identical from Jeep, electric discos are just a failure point and dont give you any extra capability. And the 4:1 t-case is useless for most offroaders in comparison to the stock, but if you really wanted one you can get it easily for cheap

You can go from a base sport to race ready buggy and anything in between.
They all hold their value well.
Most common, 2.5" and 35's. This is like buying a computer, depends on what your goal is. You can get lifts from 300$ to 15K. What choo wanna do?
Water proof no. The new JL's are vastly more water resistant than the JK's and previous. Typically a day of drying out and your fine if there are any issues. I have let both get rained in.
My thoughts? Bob has money. Tell Bob to buy a JL, not an 18 JK.
My newest is a JL Sport S. The rubicon offers nothing I would keep, except the 4:1 transfer case. I use my lockers above 10MPH and in 4H, and I run disconnected 99% of the time anyway so F their sway bars. So why spend the extra 10K+ to change the parts Jeep charged me for?

i've had several jeeps over the years and the "sports" suspension is perfect for south Louisiana and mine have never been in the shop for anything other than regular maintenance.
