As someone with nearly 200k on an original trans that has towed a lot, change your fluid every 60k or so.

Absolutely. The JK/JL models have made them very solid daily drivers out of the box.

Sorry Chicken, I have nothing to offer in this thread.

The LJ is the most recent form of the scrambler. Minus the V8.

as a daily driver?
That is all up to the owner and their comfort level. My lifted TJ rode better than my stock YJ. My lifted JK rides better than my lifted TJ.
They all ride/rode worse than my wife's 4 runner.
Rubicons ride rougher because of suspension and tires. I have upgraded both. I am running Cooper STT Pros which are reasonable aggressive tire. When you find the right psi level for the tires with your lift, it can be pretty smooth. Mine is a manual, so the 4.10 gears provide enough pep for the larger tires.
A Sahara from the factory is smoother than a Rubicon, however if Bob changes the suspension/tires it no longer matters how it came from the factory.

it is my understanding that any Sport or Sahara could be given some modifications to give it Rubicon rock-climbing capabilities...is this true?
Yes, but the value is in the rubi...unless you bolt on yourself

Yes

- What are the most common modifications that you would recommend to a new Wrangler owner? I have told Bob to get 35" tires with black wheels (with 2.5" lift) and maybe get steel bumpers. What else?
I think 35s are better under 3.5"+...tires will rub fenders on bumpy turns...unless you file them back
If he plans to trail ride:
Bolt on evap cover
Ditch the shitty nerf bars and get rock rails
And a better tire carrier/rear bumper...
Bolt on Rad cooler will help a bit

- Are Jeep Wrangler interiors really water proof? Bob got leather seats.
Kinda...throw neoprenes on it and keep the leather out of the elements...I leave my top off through all elements in GA weather
If you are buying a jeep for gas mileage your priorities are out of whack...get a prius

with the gearing difference it would probably be a little quicker in one and slower in the other, but i am uncertain how much difference. i also imagine the 4.10 gearing of the rubicon would make it a little slower to accelerate. but you'd better wait on a more knowledgeable jeep guy to tell ya. it could be the reverse logic for all i know. but i DO know the gearing will make the ride difference esp if you have the 35's on a sahara model. i think it would matter less if you had smaller tires on both, say 31's.
i've heard that the pedal commander helps the feeling of the accel lag.

Assuming both are running factory suspension with the same 35" tire mounted, Rubicon may be a little more firm. That is not a guarantee though. Jeep has several different spring rates based off options you put on your Jeep as well. If both Jeeps are running factory suspension, same tires and top/towing options will probably feel the same. Automatic Jeeps run the same gearing, 4.10 was just an option for auto Rubicons - at least that was the JK way.

Very little...my rubi has 35s, my buddy's Sahara is on 35s...we can't tell, because ride becomes more reliant on tire pressure and condition...when they get older, joints giving a little before they go create issues

that is all 100% accurate

Other way around. Will accelerate faster, lower top speed.

me too. i wish my dials and mid-dash looked the JL way, and i love the new front quarter panel cutout. i'm not a fan of the new window rake and the difference to the grill, but to each their own. :)
say, i can't recall. did they end up keeping full steel body? i know i used to know, but i've forgotten by now.

idk why i can't keep that straight in my head. i guess my brain tells me bigger teeth = slower. i forget circumference of gear.

I have an 18 JL Sport S - nice upgrade from my 09 JK - haven’t had any issues with it, the 8spd trans is a nice addition. I have a 2.5” lift and am running a 35” ridge grappler.
I have JKS quick disconnects on the front and ordered Jeep with LSD which upgrades the rear axle to a D44. I also ordered the Tow Package / HD electric group mainly for the bigger alternator and prewired AUX switches controlled through the radio interface.
Most people will never use the off-road capabilities of a Sport never mind a Rubicon. If you want more premium interior features it makes sense to buy a Sahara or Rubicon.
I also have always run a soft top. There are more issues with the new hard top than the soft top. No zippers and you can run in full safari mode (windows out top up).
I think all models hold there resale value if you don’t beat it up to bad. I go off-road but it is also my daily driver.

It’s actually a JT Scrambler and now that JK production is complete they have started to change over the assembly line to start producing the 4 door JT, followed by the 2 door.

Chicken take it from someone who is trying to sell a 15’ Rubicon that just spent 3 months in the shop, do not buy a Jeep. When your Jeep breaks (and it inevitably will) Jeep/FCA will do anything possible to weasel out of the warranty claim. I had my fun with my Jeep and I used it to get to some of the most remote parts of the country but I can’t wait until it’s gone. I’ll be replacing it with a Toyota fwiw
