Raise the kids the best you can
You can’t avoid everything. That’s what you call life

Tim Minchin-I Can't Save You
As much as we try, we can't save them from themselves. Little birds have to learn to fly, and that always comes with the risk of falling. Of failing.
All we can do is teach them and arm them with the skills to navigate and hope they don't fall too hard or too far or somewhere we can't reach them.
But they will fall. We all fall. The lucky among us have the chance to nurse our little birds back to health and show them that, although the falling hurts, the flying is worth it.
Hug them tight. They are little for too short a time.

Think it’s bad now? Just wait until they discover the OT.

Idk, back in the day, every homeschooled kid was kind of a weirdo. Maybe that’s changed. Kids need to be exposed to other kids, besides family. Just deal with situations as they arise. Raise your kids. Don’t shelter them. It’s called growing up. It’s called life.

Not sure why there is such a stigma against homeschooling; like everyone who does it is living like "Little House on the Prairie".
I was homeschooled after my parents pulled me out of Our Lady of Mercy when I finished 4th grade. I was a high-level gymnast, and had lots of socialization.
Were there the "weird" kids that were home-schooled? Sure. But there were also the kids that went to school that were strange. Weirdos exist everywhere, school doesn't change that.
My mom actually worked part-time, so I pretty much taught myself. Got an accounting degree from LSU and consider myself fairly successful.
Was I sheltered? Only in the sense that my parents kept a close eye on who I interacted with, while under their roof. It helped me, later in life, that if I made a poor decision, at least I was an adult and could properly deal with the consequences of my choices.

You sound like a control freak.
How are kids supposed to learn about the real world if you hide them from it forever?

Chalk up another member of the pussy generation.

Social media…bullies…racial shite…it never ends.
Emphasis on never, that’s why they should learn to deal with it now. It’s your job as a parent to teach them how the real world works and the real world isn’t unicorns and rainbows.
Prepare the child for the road, not the road for the child.

Seeing how other kids and parents behave has been eye opening
It crosses politics and all other "dividers"
Shitty parents are everywhere

I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s. I was the most skinny kid in school. Well there wasn’t any school counselors back then. Bullies were everywhere, needless to say I fought a lot On the bus, at school ,after school. I got to where I didn’t give a shite. I won some but lost some also. Looking back my school work suffered I never went to college and it’s something I regret. Not complaining it’s just the way it was back then

Because I used tothink that isolating them with home schooling wouldn’t help them socialize. Now I’m second guessing that decision.
You made the right decision.
The world sucks and middle school sucks worse. Raise them right and help then navigate through the mistakes they make.
They will be fine.

World is fricked up man, my 2 oldest are in second grade and kindergarten and they are starting to come home with some stories.
My 12 year old niece got chased down the hall by "furries". Yep, they let the furries come to school dressed as furries, and pretty much do what they want. In central AL, mind you.
Everything is flipped, we used to think: I'm not going to school dressed like that people will make fun of me.
Now it's: I'm dressing like this and if anyone says anything I'll complain until they get in trouble.
Bring back humiliation

we have to deal with the ramifications and help them cope with the social structures that these other kids create.
Pretty much like the rest of their lives?
Kids are assholes because parents are assholes and yes, teaching a kids to remain diligent, remain strong and proud and unapologetically chase their dreams and passions with discipline, kindness and love is necessary step for successful parenting but it sure is rewarding.
I try to remind my daughter of this as much as I can because I know it's hard. Shithead parents raising shithead kids sucks.
