I feel like I'm wasting away at my job

This isn't a millennial complaining about work thread. I'm just tired of NOT working at work. I've been here for about 5 months and it's so ridiculously slow. I'm young, not even two years removed from undergrad, and I feel like I'm not learning anything. I find myself missing the manual labor jobs I worked in college. I don't want to fall behind. Easy fix is to find a new job, but it's tough to leave a position where you're making great money and have a great schedule. I feel like I lucked up with my current salary and I don't want to chance it. Guess I'll have to prioritize and make a call eventually.
Is this what office jobs are suppose to feel like?

Depends on your office.
Mine has seasonal workflow along with certain projects that come up every X number of years.
There are slack times where there is a ton of “hurry up and wait” and there are times where there aren’t enough hours in the week.

There's an ebb and flow at most office jobs. I am sometimes slammed and would kill for a break, and then other times it's dead. Down time is miserable.. you can only browse the internet for so long. Work there long enough to gain experience and then go find the next challenge.
However.. be careful what you wish for. The grass ain't always greener, etc.

Even as a millennial myself, this seems like a millennial complaining thread

Life is short. Ride that gravy train long enough to build up a nest egg. Then you can go do what you want to do.

Take some god damn initiative and find a way to help the company while strengthening your own skills.

You need hobbies to keep you entertained:
frick a coworker
stalk a coworker
poke holes in the salt and pepper shakers in the break room
connect a coworkers mouse to another coworkers computer
pick a random number between 1 and 100 and only say that many words per day.

maybe you think you are doing better than you actually are ?

Terrible spot to be in, my company was purchased a few years ago and my co-workers all felt the same way about the new place. Salaries didn’t change, but we all felt we were losing valuable skills and like we were just wasting away. My advice to my direct reports was to learn a new skill at the job that you could take elsewhere until either the work changes or they left. Find a way to cross train or take a class and do a project that uses the training. Yea, it sucks to make work for yourself, but better that than look back in another 6 months and have nothing to show for it.

What do you do for work?
This is why I enjoy Telecom. There's always a new issue that comes up.
Beginning of the year I was working on LAA projects for strictly FDD.
Summer, I worked on CBRS only projects that were strictly TDD.
Now I am on a project that combines it all and uses FDD AND TDD.
Never ever bored.
