Direct TV

When you decide to discontinue Direct TV because they're in a dispute w/ Disney/ESPN the opening weekend of college football, be prepared for a 45 min phone call, or longer. Hint, before making the call get all your account info ready, including account #. Although they were willing take my money online, they made me make a phone call to discontinue service. The 1st time I called, I didn't have the account # since we've not had a paper bill for 2 years. My wife found the acct # on an old bill so I called back. Of course, this time they didn't ask for the account #. I've come to the conclusion that poor service is the industry standard these days for customer service

Curious - If you switch from Cox and have a Cox.com address, do you have to change your email address ?

After 90 days the email will no longer be accessible. So you have to get a new email address (like gmail).

Better turn their equipment in personally. They billed me for an additional month for not giving them 30 days notice prior to cancelation. They even put my account up for collection.

So far, one downvote and they probably work for Cox.

Actually this is no longer true. Cox sold its email service to Yahoo. You can keep your cox.net account forever.

I love Direct TV streaming. Best cable I’ve ever had.

Except for the two or three weeks they didn’t have ESPN or ABC. That sucked.

I wouldn’t get to excited just yet. AT&T blows and they said I can try it free for 21 days, well I hated it so much I cancelled after 10 days and had to pay $126.

I'm just price watching. I'll jump everytime I see a lower price. I have a loyalty to paying less. Speaking about that I called cox about something and they complimented me on being loyal. I shut them down saying I'm only loyal to the amount a company charges. Speaking of which I'm about to cut the cord and I like 1 gig and cox charges $40 more than AT&T but I remember how much of a thorn they were. 5 yrs ago I got so pissed at them that I paid $400 to break their contract to leave. I will say their options were shite in my area and they're much better now.

i actually used to be employed in their advertising department, on the technical side

i installed, configured and maintained the gear that made it possible to insert local ads on ESPN, CNN, TWC, etc

one of my buddies there used to love every time the phone rang in his area, so he could answer it by saying, “Cox Insertion”

Years ago I developed a strategy where I started with "I am moving out of the country..." It might not get someone off script but it worked like a charm with every native English speaker. Over time while waiting on hold to talk to a human I built this little narrative about how I was moving to Pozza a little village outside Maranello in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. I have stayed in the area several times and I could wax poetic about it and within a couple of minutes they were begging to get me off the phone. I rarely had to resort to the back story about how I got divorced because my wife was cheating on me with one of my partners and shortly after my beloved dog of 12 years died and I decided I needed a fresh start.

I would usually do it in my home office because if I didn't my wife and I would start cracking up. She would always ask me if Rufus the adorable bloodhound had to die again for my convenience. Fortunately, ole Rufus rarely had to give his fictional life for me to get off the phone.

Att is okay with fiber(gaming etc) but if you have a streaming service outside of At&t, get ready to get freezes on the regular. Those frickers will throttle your shite if it isn't their streaming you buy. Mfers.

Solution: use a vpn(not their service).
At&t

I haven't had any problems with AT&T fiber service for the past several years. At ~$65/month it has served us well. Also, haven't had any problems with FUBO. I'm actually beginning to like it.

Why anybody still uses satellite providers for live tv in 2025 is beyond me. Even if they present it as a internet tv bundle I won’t use it

I used YouTube tv for streaming so no issues there other than price hikes

It stings that these streaming services are turning into what cable companies are and what everyone was trying to get away from to begin with.

Had the same experience when cancelling cox after installing fiber

As I got good and annoyed I just started demanding personally identifying information for my made up complaint to the FCC that “I had begun filling out” and the guy at least stopped his questions

Still took entirely too long but was at least quiet

Cable companies are like airlines. Everybody complains about all of them, it just depends on your personal experience as to which you prefer. I’ve had cox my entire life and never had any issues. I’m not saying they’re the best, I’ve just never run into any problems. I also only pay for wifi so I don’t deal with them a whole lot.

Same (also for landline [and before you laugh, remember cell service in BR area evaporated after Katrina, Gustav and in some areas during the 2016 flood]). Plenty of posts on OT bitching about AT&T in BR when Cox internet is humming along for me.

For those who don't have Starlink..... It's worth every penny. and then some. frick cox, att and whatever else internet and cable that's out there. Starlink is easy, hassle free and no bullshite involved.

Also, cox is hands down the worst cable provider I've ever dealt with. frick them.
