Fellow father of 5, all girls though. We learned with our first (twins, 17 now) to offer food at meal time, if they eat it great, if they don’t, it was wrapped up and served at the next meal. No snacks until they eat what we offered at meal time and no snacks or dessert unless they ate almost all of the meal. No pressure on them, no yelling, no negotiating, it’s just the way it is.

My wife fought it for a while but eventually gave in. Worked for my basket cases.

Your job is to provide food. The toddler’s job is to eat. Unless he/she is underweight or having health issues, trust that they’re eating enough. Portions are still very very small at that age.

Yeah, having my powerball winnings snatched up from under me with "power ball glitches" is more frustrating

This 1000x

The more frustrating thing is a parent who gives up vs. a toddler.

Their attention spans are like three minutes so she’d refuse but a few minutes later she’s nibbling on broccoli, salmon, whatever and now she eats them regularly.

That too. They'll eat eventually but there were some foods my kids would absolutely refuse. Now they eat those same foods they would downright reject when they were toddlers.

It wouldn’t frustrate me. Eventually they’ll get hungry enough to eat. Early on my wife did all the cooking, but when she traveled it was left to me. I usually baked a chicken with some vegetables etc.
I would always get some grief. I said you can either eat what I cook or make something yourself- obviously these weren’t toddlers.
But I think in either case when they get hungry enough they will eat

My 2 year old is getting her tonsils removed this month. I hope she starts to sleep after this.

They will eat when the they are hungry enough. You have to have more will power and patience than the toddler.

We always did it. It was just expected at dinner time. I guess no one ever thought to ask to eat in their room, or not eat. If you didnt want what was for supper, bring something different to the table It was designed to be a pleasant shared family time, not a time to exert ones authority
Oh yeah, our little one eats at the same spot at the same time every night, our issue at the moment is more finding a good time when everyone is home and can sit down at the table to eat that also corresponds with the rest of the little one’s routine. I was mainly asking about when to start the whole everyone eating dinner at once thing than the other stuff.

We struggled to get my two to want to eat anything other than mac and cheese, McDonalds, processed junk. They will only refuse to eat healthy food for one meal. Both of my boys now love to eat clean like we do now. Have to start them off on the right foot with it which is tough when they have a mother that wants to feed them what they want.

Oppositely, my 2 year old doesn't understand the time change so to her dinner was an hour late last night. She got a bowl out of the cabinet and came stand next to me by the stove with the saddest face while I tried to finish cooking quickly, then crushed two bowls of rice and gravy when it was ready.
