My wife’s family immigrated to America a few hundred years ago from the Canary Islands. They all have a dark complexion and I’ve always joked with her that she’s black and her brothers look like Arabs because of her and her brothers’ skin complexion and the proximity of the Canary Islands to Africa. I just looked it up and although it’s a Spanish territory, her people were actually the Berbers, who were from Northern Africa and Lybia, before settling the Canary Islands. Turns out she really IS African and Arab. We have two beautiful mixed babies together and I can’t believe we’ve been voting Republican all these years!

Ask me anything.

That's a beautiful place. I've been to Tenerife and La Gomera. Do you have connections there/have you ever visited?

Where did they settle?

Delacroix
Baratarria(sp?)
Galveztown
Valenzuela

And term used for immigrants from the Canary islands is "Isleno". At least that's what it is for the hispanic people who came from there

My cousin married into a family of Canary Islanders and they are really white. According to them, the genetic makeup there is majority Iberian in origin. Your wife is still a white devil.

Why did they immigrate to the US?

Where they enslaved?

Did they ever own slaves?

Assuming you’re a coonass or redneck from Louisiana (we are in TD after all), how did you meet her?

I assume someone from a culture like that would typically turn a cold shoulder to us kind. As a whole, Louisiana folk have a terrible accents, diction, and general outside culture awareness. Either you aren’t a typical Louisiana fellow, or she just like your manners.
