This is why I rent things like that. I like fast cars. Sometimes I'll rent a fast car and take it somewhere and go fast. Seems to scratch the itch.

I always wanted to learn how to ski/snowboard. I took a trip only to have caught the flu right before I left and spend the entire trip sick as a dog. The last morning before I left, I felt well enough to take the lift to the top of the bunny hill and fall flat on my face a few times. I still want to try it with an instructor and what not someday, but that felt like such a tease.

It's travel for me. My grandparents owned a small music store. They taught lessons and had a successful business. They always had intentions of retiring and travel, but my grandmother developed early onset dementia and deteriorated quickly. They never got to do anything they worked so hard for. If you have the means to do it now, do it.

First thought was also the HI Joe carrier. Second, Porsche 911. Now that I can afford it I can think of hundreds of things I'd rather experience or family I could spend it on. Probably just rent one instead.

JMO, but if the guy hasn't figured out by 70+ that what he "always wanted" was a superficial frivolous "heart's desire," I feel kind of bad for him.

He's old enough to have learned better by now.

Have a lot of shotguns but always liked the Browning A5. Bought one made in 1981 about 2 years ago. It is in immaculate condition. Guy I bought it from kept it in some kind of pre-oiled protective sleeves. Just a gorgeous gun in my opinion and I have always liked them.

Not expensive... just a bucket list gun for me.

Man I still every Christmas, think about the aircraft carrier I didn't get. I remember seeing one in toyrus back in the day and the $100 price tag and only wishing.

Dan Gilbert at Harvard has done a lot of research on happiness and your experience is exactly what his research predicts.

The high of obtaining things wears off very quickly.

The enjoyment of experiences, by contrast (like vacations), increases over time.

I always wanted a pool when I was growing up, so I built one. I’ve resisted other stuff like sports cars, for now.

Always wanted a full size arcade game, got one in my 20s when I had a lot of income and no real cost of living.
