They actually did a pretty good job with this project

Lucky for them, nobody was on the road for the last 7 months of the project.

Need to widen hwy 30 (Nicholson)from downtown all the way to Gonzales (Tanger Outlet/ Cabelas Exit).

Absolutely. It needs to be widened between LSU in Baton Rouge and Airline Highway in Gonzales.

Probably needs to include a wider (50') median to enable U-turns in parts of Ascension, and don't cut the median for every damn driveway. In Gonzales and Baton Rouge, it should probably be a 5 lane road with a center turn lane.

Cool. Now they can start commissioning studies on the next small portion of I-10 they're gonna drag out of the 60's kicking and screaming.

Thats going to be an exit for Pecue? Thats a great idea.

see this before you talk about how great it will be.

quote:

DOTD is working with the mayor's MOVEBR program to fund this project. It’s now in phase two, which includes building the new bridges and a mechanically stabilized earth wall. That costs around $13 million. The next phase will cost more than double that.

“The final phase is the larger completed chunk, is between $40 and $50 million,” Dr. Wilson said.

In phase three, the on and off-ramps will be built and Pecue Lane will be widened to four lanes from Perkins Road to Airline Highway.

“We need to improve the connection from the east side to the west side of I-10. And this will facilitate that,” Dr. Wilson said.

Phase two of the project is expected to be complete at the end of 2021. Then, phase three will begin.

DOTD does not yet know how long the final widening phase will take. They have to bid out the project first.

First off, they are going to have some funky arse diamond interchange that makes you appear to be driving in the left lane, that will confuse the shite out of the majority of our dumbass population.
Secondly, Pecue is 2 lanes, and already has a good bit of traffic on it. Why they decided to finish the interchange well before widening Pecue is stupid. That road is going to have a shite load of people on it, and i'd bet the light at airline is going to get backed up to the interstate several times throughout the day.

Once they figure it out, it should be pretty awesome. Divergent diamond interchanges are much safer and more efficient.

It had to do with the timeline associated the FHA’s approval of an off ramp there- that was quickly expiring. They bought some time by using the money to clear the trees there back in 16 or 17 and then had to continued progress on it. Had they not built this part now they never would have gotten another approval to build an entrance/exit at that location from what I heard.

Pecue interchange is supposed to connect to Reiger near Mockler

What is this witchcraft, double diamond f*ckery they're doing there? Looks like a concrete vagina. They should float a double decker traffic circle over it just for good measure......

Would be a HUGE financial boon for the area immediately connected to it

I know this refers to Texas... but every time a highway is widened in what seems the middle of nowhere, people start moving out there for the mobility. Businesses and restaurants follow...

Does $72 million seem a little bit excessive for anyone else?

This is going to make it so much easier for the Gonzales heroin addicts to get to the methadone clinic on Rieger.

I was about to post something similar. 42 started in 2016 and looks like it has at least 5 more years before it it complete.

And yes, the HWY 42 project is a clusterfrick. Postponed more times than I can count. Proudly announced at the beginning of the year that it would be done in December 2020 (WAY behind schedule), only to be pushed to Spring 2021 a few weeks ago. Blamed Covid (when, if anything, that should have actually helped them since for about 3-4 months there was very little traffic because we were on lockdown).

Is Hwy 42 going to actually have two lanes in each direction? Originally they were going to only add a center lane, some turning lanes, and bike/walk path.

Was about to say been over 35 years messing around on the highways. By the time the 2nd lane is finished, the 1st lane has completely fallen apart and needs to be redone. Never ending cycle of dysfunction .......

The project actually broke ground in March of 2014.

Seven years to widen 3.5 miles of highway.

Thanks DOTD!
