I have a reservation in May, 50 yds N. of the current track on St. Pete Beach.

How hot is the water? Thats what limits it in perfect conditions.

The hottest water is ahead in the LC.. and then it gets a little cooler going into Florida.. cooler as in still hot, just not as hot as the LC

I hate to tell you but Tampa will likely see higher than 10ft surge
Tampa floods in a heavy rain storm.

This is going to be a generational storm in Tampa.

Remember, we're talking about a huge tornado here, not a hurricane.

Could not imagine what that flight is like.

Fuuuuuuuuck all that.

I've heard that not as bad as flying through a regular thunderstorm because all the wind is lateral as opposed to the updrafts and downdrafts in a regular thunderstorm.

I'm interested in hearing more about the hail another poster mentioned a bit ago. I may have to go looking for tbat info.

Does anyone think its strange that these hurricanes, starting from Beryl in July that hit Houston is starting by the Bay of Campache or in the Southern gulf and picking up crazy steam before slamming into the US.

Beryl stsrted across the Atlantic as a wave and eventually formed a hurricane before it entered the Carribean and continued West crossed over the Yucatán into the GOM.

Francine originated in the Bay of Campeche.

Helene Originated in the West Carribean.

Milton originated in the S Central GOM close to where Francine stsrted.

The people in NC got the big hurt from storm surge.

The 'cane stalled and dumped a metric shitload of storm surge on them, in a short amount of time.

I read that the local met in TB said this would be the worst in over 100 years.

I’ve always wondered how strong could a hurricane get in perfect conditions with unlimited time? Surely there’s a max where it can’t sustain itself

Hypothetically, 500 mph winds. It would require 100 degree farenheit water, which would require something like an asteroid strike or a large undersea volcano eruption. In that case a hurricane would be down the list of things to worry about. LINK

It didn't really stall. It just had incredible rain rates after two or three days of heavy rain prior to it. If it had stalled it would have been even worse, if that is imaginable.

I mean I didn't say it was comfortable. Just not as violent as a thunderstorm. Not even the Hurricane Hunters would fly through a well developed thunderstorm on purpose. Those things will rip the wings off of even the sturdieat airplanes.

Assume as hot as you could reasonably expect. High end of normal SSTs in August
