I'm not dogging you at all. I just want to know what to pay attention to and what to ignore.
We're in Plant City. I think we're in good shape, will probably lose power at some point because we always lose power, but I'm feeling a lot better than I did this morning when I woke up to Cat 4 right over my house.

Fingers crossed this thing keeps losing steam.

NHC is damned if they do and damned if they don’t. If it comes in weaker than forecast, everyone is mad. If they forecast it to be weaker and then it ends up stronger, everyone is mad. No one outside of the weather community seems to care how hard these things are to forecast. Especially when people are unhappy about any forecast that isn’t 100% perfect.
I think you are correct but I think public servants like the Tampa mayor erode confidence when the engage in histrionics like “if you stay your house will be your coffin” and then turn out to be wrong. Like just state the facts and let people decide. If they want to stay and die then that’s their choice.

If weakening pace continues it will be about 970 mb at landfall.

Encouraging trend. Now we need the tornados to go away.

Hoping these positives keep stacking, I'm supposed to be boarding a cruise ship on Sunday in Port Canaveral. Delayed our trip to Orlando. Debating going down Friday or Saturday now. Probably will strap some of my jerry cans on the wife mobile for safe measure.

That’s what happens when you live in a hurricane zone. Of all the hurricanes we evacuated for bc we were gonna die, only one bc of certain other negligence was worth evacuating for. Most times they shift direction a little as they make landfall or downgrade.

but if the mayor is operating on info at hand at the time, he has to say it. if it had come in as a 4 possibly a 5 - he very well could have been right on that.
the fact is - you can only present the info you have at hand. people are stubborn and won't listen no matter what it is, and then they are fricked - and blame everyone else for it.
like roll tide ravens said - they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
hell I pushed really hard to get my Aunt to evacuate from St Pete because at the time the info I had was what we were discussing here. am I glad it wont be as bad as we thought - frick yeah, not just for her but everyone there.
but - I couldn't take the chance and convinced her to go inland for safety.

At least she was speaking only to people in evacuation zones
The OT told us that everyone within 50 miles of the coast between cedar key and Marco island had a death wish if they didn’t leave.

This goes for every profession though. A successful knee replacement is probably pretty tough to master but people dgaf about how difficult it is when an orthopedist screws one up.
As long as the fedgov is leading the charge to find new high quality and effective means of accurately forecasting then I don't see anything changing soon. That would have to come from the private sector and its hard to get paid for predicting storms. Though I could see energy companies possibly funding some advancement. We'll see.

Found this on page 20-something
The bay/sound south of Tampa just north of Cape Coral will get the worst it looks like
You can see based on the map and projected storm surge how the storm surge will funnel to a point through Gasparilla Sound/Charlotte Harbor causing massive storm surge in the Port Charlotte area.

I got crucified yesterday for suggesting there may be a bit too much hype about this storm. It’ll still have significant impacts but it’s been overdone by the media

They missed badly on intensity during the early tracks. The track is on point except for the Yucatan dip.
