Amazingly, that would still not be the lowest pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin.

Just stop. Could it happen, yes. But there isn't much sense in fear mongering. People are already on edge, the last year has been bad enough without people like you being a dick.

Well, models have all been consistent in it taking that north turn. The issue is timing on when it gets sucked up. So yeah, it could become a problem for the rest of GOM eventually depending on how fast/strong it comes down near Louisiana. That's if it even does. It's way too early to worry about that this far west. It's concerning but let's wait a few more days to see how it plays out.

Worse case scenario seems to be Irma moving along islands on southern cone and weakening. That let's it sneak under high with possible ridge forming over Florida allowing Irma to get into the GOM.

If the storm is in middle of cone and over water it's going to strengthen an more than likely run like most the projections are showing.

People have issues if they have panic attacks based on someone posting a 1998 hurricane path on a message board.

That front should save TX/LA am I correct?

That's the big trough we've all been watching for and discussing for the better part of a week now. It's not a saving grace for us or anything, there's quite a bit more going into opening up a weakness on the edge of the high to open up the north turn.

I remember that one. I was in grade school or something when that bitch had Louisiana in its sights. I remember I was over my cousin's house waiting for that storm then it all magically just stopped with the wind and I was like wtf happened. Made that turn to Miss then next day I remember the teachers were bitching they cancelled school on a storm that was projected to hit Louisiana...

You know what you're doing, I know what you're doing. Let's just leave it at that.

Every hour I check on this thing that path keeps getting shifted more westward.

It's moved west and more southerly every single day and they still think it'll eventually turn north. That's turning into a Georges like path.
NO, it turns into a hurricane that hits Fort Meyers or Tampa.

Dude, you have no idea what Irma may do. It is irresponsible to come on here and say that it is going to take the same path as Hurricane Georges. Georges crossed Hispaniola and Cuba, Irma's center will likely stay north of there. You really shouldn't be even attempting to compare them, as it does no good.

NOLA evacuated for that one I believe on a Saturday of an LSU home game. And if it wasn't that one it was indeed another one and NOTHING happened and that's why people are sketchy about evacuating. #bettersafethansorry

Are you even watching the path get closer and closer to crossing Hispaniola and Cuba? It's not pretty likely that it won't do that anymore. You're watching these crappy models keeping it north when they've been wrong the entire time so far on this storm. It would be great for the US if they did that.

s/w is weaker on the 18z and the main trough is kicking out faster. But there are other changes and Irma ends up landfalling near the same poin

I'm failing to see what would cause that sharp north turn in that graphic? Without a stronger s/w to create a weakness it looks to be barreling into the high ridge which is odd.

Georges was the reason I started hating Margaret Orr (WDSU meteorologist)

also... same weekend as some rookie scrub QB named Peyton Manning and the Colts taking on the Saints... Saints won in OT
