Well, the junk news websites are all over it.
Hurricane Irma May Wipe Entire Cities Off the Map
Crazy thing is, they might be right.

It's not a stretch. This could make people in Houston grateful they just got flooded.

I've RAed to sticky this thread
think it's really worth it now... this is becoming an imminent threat to not just the US but specifically people who visit this site (people from SEC school states)

Holy hell, 887mb. Would make it the 2nd strongest on record in the Atlantic if it gets there. Effff.

There's some comments I believe on the Stormcast thread that the GFS is vastly overstating storm strength (by 40mb or so).

maybe it doesn't mean much but Irma is North of the forecast points and looks to be moving just north of due west. something to keep an eye on.

Ex husband worked at the nuclear plant in Southport when we got married. We lived on Oak Island. When you went across the bridge you were in Yaupon Beach on the north end. We lived farther to the south end which was Long Beach. There wasn't a whole lot there but old beach houses back then. we lived in a duplex and were friends with a coast guard captain and his wife that lived on the other side. 40 years ago.

Just a wobble, or are we seeing the beginnings of a NE curve?

And some idiots on my facebook are sharing these articles and lecturing on global warming. Liberals never miss a beat, don't they?

If Irma hits the Carolinas as even a cat 3 or 4. Sunny Point, the country’s largest ammunition port would be wiped out as well as the nuke plant. LINK

We're still a little ways out from knowing where it will be going. But, once we do have a better idea, and given the strength of Irma, then I'm sure we will be giving a sticky.

Oak Island is beautiful.

There was an article on CNN yesterday complaining about trump wearing a "campaign" hat to visit in Houston and lake charles yesterday. The hat literally said, USA, on the front. So no, they don't miss an opportunity to make themselves look stupid.

And I'm sure there's conservatives sharing it claiming it is punishment from God for America's wrong doings.
Stupidity isn't isolated to one political view or another. Let's try to stick to weather here.

Thanks for the article. I had no idea that was there. I do remember it being a long lonely drive through the woods from Southport to Wilmington to go to a movie or shop.
