good point, it's seriously just an impossible situation right now. Terrible for those still on the island, i can't imagine

It's awful. Combine what Irma did to how remote they are and the fact that the airports were severely damaged. Meanwhile Jose is about to mess everything up again and delaying more responders.

We had people in this thread two days ago saying they'd rebuild in a matter of months so it isn't a big deal. Some of these islands might not have power for months. Throw in that the tourism industry the affected islands is probably done for the next season or two and it only makes matters worse.

Washington (CNN)The US military began supporting relief operations for Hurricane Irma on Thursday as helicopters deployed from the USS Wasp amphibious warship started assisting with damage assessment and medical evacuations for critical care patients from St. Thomas to St. Croix, according to US Northern Command.

In one of the largest potential amphibious relief operations ever, four additional US Navy amphibious warships, in addition to the USS Wasp, are in either en route to the region or on standby at various locations off Florida, the mid-Atlantic and the Caribbean to move in for relief operations after Hurricane Irma passes, according to several Navy and Marine Corps officials.

Was just watching TWC and noticed a disturbing looking system down in the southwestern part of the GOM. Looks like the same place Harvey came from.

Do you know what is being said about that system?

You talking about Hurricane Katia??

Hope everyone gets a decent priced seat. Glad delta and others capped prices.

Airlines are smart here. They'd probably be getting those planes out of Florida anyhow. Now they get some extra cash and great PR. Win win for everybody.

Recon pressure is up to 928mb, but as we feared, the wind field seems to be increasing. A dropsonde recorded 105 mph winds at the surface 45 miles NE from the center of Irma. 120 mph winds a few hundred feet up as well.

It's fake. It's a Russian video from a few weeks ago.

The twitter comments say it's fake news, and happened 3 weeks ago in a Russia weather incident. Is it really Irma?

I'm about to begin the the trek up 75 from Tampa. I live in Hyde Park and fully expect to come back to a roof in pieces and shattered windows. Hope everyone stays safe.

No, it's not Irma. About half the videos posted in this thread are previous events being passed off as Irma. About 95% of what you see on Twitter about Irma is false.
