Some of these evacuee comments are sadly funny

Negative Zero @Neg_Zer0 · 12h So I just drove 500 miles from Florida to Atlanta only to find out that #Irma is STILL coming right for me. And oh yeah, that I-75 traffic.

It will be interesting to see what the 12z models do. Latest ensemble cluster analysis based on motion since 00z would indicate an increased chance of more interaction with Cuba and landfall farther up the west coast of Florida.

they're the UNITED STATES Virgin Islands talked about in that email. They're our territory. Those are Americans that got their lives wrecked.

Those poor souls on those islands already hit by Irma

Just have to hope that Jose veers far enough North to not hit Barbuda, St. Martin, and Anguila dead on like Irma did, and instead gives them a glancing blow.

I'm about to begin the the trek up 75 from Tampa. I live in Hyde Park and fully expect to come back to a roof in pieces and shattered windows. Hope everyone stays safe.

Woah. Really? The flooding is what I would be most concerned about but unless you are in A or B...

What is happening here? Is the bermuda high expanding? Or is the trough not strong enough to pull it north sooner? Or both?

Just like the other islands, all electricity & communications are down once Irma passes through. Probably won't get any real information until its safe for responders to fly to the island. Check geotags on Instagram, Facebook, etc. and you might be able to see a few posts from people who may somehow have cell/internet.

I may be only lucky, but I've talked to friends from St. Martin to T&C less than four hours after the storm passed each island. All are safe.

Looks more like a poorly produced Sharknado clip that got tossed.

I'd be scared shitless to be on one of those islands right now with a Cat 4 barreling down on me. The debris everywhere from Irma is going to kill a few people.

Those Hurricane Hunters are getting extra work in for sure this season ... is that their only job or are they like Air Force pilots who do this during hurricane season??

Nothing has really changed. The long range forecast from the models have moved around, which will happen at 120+ hours, but Irma is basically doing what the NHC has said it would do for the past 4-5 days. The turn north will come somewhere in the next 36-54 hours.

Recon data seems to support increasing winds again, that "reorganization" period might be coming to an end.

Did your question of what exactly will cause it to turn north get answered?
