We will be at One Ocean for the storm, a few miles from our house. My house is a block from the water right by pier, so if it goes, I'm probably gone

Now that's the way to ride out a storm. Get a burger at Poe's, oysters at the Fish Camp, and relax at that hotel.

Not that I am aware of. Any of you Florida baws know if the Gov issued that order yet? Edit: Looking at Google Maps, seems like South FL is green. Looks like the population has at least made it to CenFL / The panhandle.

Google maps has been extremely unreliable the last few days per most of my friends who evacuated on the main roads.

If you expect there might be flooding I would cut power.

What's the word in the Tampa area? I know he told me last night that traffic is complete gridlock with evacuations from down south, and tough to go anywhere, much less evacuate.

I am gonna head out and do some final preparation gathering. I can give an update after that. I don't know why people don't go up 98 instead of 75. Looking at Google maps 75 from the 275 connector to Valdosta is solid red. Meanwhile 98 is green.

So it's not a Cat 5 anymore.

Didn't break that record I guess.

Am I the only noticing this track has shifted way left once it hits land - like the whole "jet stream will make it go due north and east" argument has now been deemed full of shite

64kt winds now extend 105 nautical miles from the NE quadrant to the SE quadrant.

For any Americans here, that is 74 mph.

Just kidding Slack. You're an animal.

The overnight ERC has somewhat disrupted the core of Irma and it will probably take some time to sort that out. Irma might track close enough to Cuba to prevent any significant strengthening but the approach to S. FL well determine how much time over water it has after Cuba.

She's swapping wind speed for wind field size. All in all, that's probably worse.

Officially staying put in Tampa. Hopefully it all works out. Any good links on preparing a home for a major hurricane?

Apparently they are not starting contraflow until tomorrow for some reason. Using the shoulder as extra lanes at this point.

Probably using south lanes to stage supplies, etc

, the fact that the NHC uses nautical miles and knots seems a bit outdated.
