Officially staying put in Tampa. Hopefully it all works out. Any good links on preparing a home for a major hurricane?
Generator, fuel, CO monitor, window shutters. Water and food, obviously, but you can store tap water rather than fight for bottled water.

When they mention the distance winds extend from the center are they measuring from the dead center of the eye or the inner layer of the eyewall?
AND when they give a distance is that the TOTAL ACROSS or is it OUT TO EACH SIDE from the eye??

Are you in Tampa. Getting frustrated with my brother being determined to stay there with his family.

Recon just measured 944 in JOSE. That's three Atlantic basin cyclones at 944 or lower in 2 weeks.

Damn that's crazy. Man I hope people are listening to the authorities are are getting the hell out of Florida. I'm hoping it's not as bad as they're predicting but I wouldn't take a chance wth this one.
It just sucks that there really doesn't seem anywhere to go to be totally out of the path unless you can get to the panhandle and head due West.
I bet the Mobile tunnel could possible be put to the test these next few days.

If it's not too late, and if you have a generator, get one of those syphons, that are made to syphon gas from your automobile tanks to your generator. Then fill up every vehicle you own. Easier way to have a large supply of gas without all the containers.

Just like the other islands, all electricity & communications are down once Irma passes through. Probably won't get any real information until its safe for responders to fly to the island. Check geotags on Instagram, Facebook, etc. and you might be able to see a few posts from people who may somehow have cell/internet.

CO monitor?
To monitor CO from generator exhaust getting into house/building. This is potentially more dangerous than the hurricane.

From experience, I'd add a gun and ammunition to that. Not just for looters but for animals.

Not worried about looters. Don't live in New Orleans
I will have a couple guns loaded, though

Pray that the eyewall passes to the East of Tampa. If not, and Tampa ends up on the East side, it's gonna be a major disaster with the wind blowing the water inland. That's my biggest worry for them.

It's from the actual center of the storm. It's also the maximum distance, so wind the wind field will be smaller in areas.
58 mph winds extend 195 miles total - 105 miles to the NW and 90 miles to the SE of the storm.
75mph winds extend 115 miles total - 65 miles to the NW and 50 miles to the SE.

When my dad was stranded on the roof of his house for 6 days after Katrina, he shared the rooftop with every snake and gator in the area. I'd rather the looters
