Or put another way, what is stopping Irma from staying on a straight path and entering the GOM?
I'll let the weather gurus answer, but something about a pressure front in the GoM pushing it north.

Link to where I asked before? That's right, I didn't. I thought I was speaking to Angele. She'd have given a more civil answer.

It looks like a direct hit on my 76 year old Mom's home in Fort Pierce. She's like 6 or 7 miles west of the ocean right off I-95 like halfway between St Lucie and Vero Beach. She evacuated to Orlando. I honestly don't know what she will do if she loses everything-not sure she would be able to sustain that as frail as she is. She lives in one of those wafer-thin construction Boca Boca retirement communities.

I stated today that watching this storm scared me, as it seems almost certain SC will get hit relatively hard. After tracking it most all day today and going out this evening to stock up on supplies, however, I have hardened my resolve. frick Irma. Dum Spiro Spero.

Flood last year and Harvey this year, I didn't hear as many jokes. One thread on the most powerful Atlantic storm ever and they are giggly.
