The point I was trying to make is that if there is a Ridge or a current there that's going to steer the storm, it's going to steer it regardless of how strong it is. It isn't going to just smash right through it, correct? That's the whole reason this thing is moving farther south than originally anticipated, that Ridge in the Atlantic has really been pushing on it.

You better leave soon. By Thursday, it will be a parking lot.

Looks like the eye wall replacement cycle is visible on the flight level winds. The two peaks usually give it away.

You're saying to go when?

The turnpike and Interstates will be packed Saturday. Start mapping the back roads out now. Driving late helps the amount of traffic. Understand that they are coming. Everybody from the Keys on up will be on the interstates and turnpike.

The next day or two should give us a better idea where it is going. If the eye wall is 75 miles off shore, Clermont is fine. You will get wind and rain though.

Here's my advice:
1. You should already have or have already made a list of things which you must take with you and a list of hurricane supplies for stay or go. We keep supplies and go early to get anything needed. This is because people panic Buy and you may not be able to get it later. Plywood and water are already running short here

Addendum - if you have any plans to evac go ahead and reserve hotels as soon as they start up with the *possibility* of your area talk

2. - 2-3 days before expected Evac order for your locale you should start getting house in order. Move outdoor stuff to secure, etc. Also go ahead and start organizing your go/stay stuff

3. If you're expecting and evac order and planning to leave, get the jump on the evac and go. Leaving in a mandatory evac is miserable. Last time for us a regular 4 hour drive took 14.

I missed where you are but if it were me and a cat three was coming I'm gone ... for this I'm surely gone unless you're medical and work won't allow it or something.

And yes evacuating once it's mandatory is terrible ... if head out before mandated.

Good luck. Take all important papers/pictures/meds/etc. pick up any desktop computer towers. Flip curtains up over the rod. Take anything that you can if sentimental value or monetary ie jewelry.

Can the Hurricane Hunters fly into the portion of the storm that is over Cuban air space?
I've often wondered this. It always seemed to me like the weather forecasters would intentionally omit any reference to Cuba when talking about a storm. They would go deep about the effects on Puerto Rico, Haiti, etc., but they would just ignore this one particular strip of land that's 75 miles or so off the Keys. Not sure if it were because of the embargo or just my imagination.

Get out. You can always cancel a hotel reservation if need be.
