generally one would expect irma to create a lot of upwelling from being a strong storm, and bring lots of cooler water up from the atlantic to the surface, weather or not that would put a damper on development is hard to say at this point.

IIRC the warm surface layer in the GOM was about 100 meters deep, so upwelling wasn't an issue for Harvey. I don't know if the same holds true for the open Atlantic.

Got 160 mph surface winds on last recon pass. Nothing here to suggest winds have gotten stronger.

I'm glad I took my trip to the BVI's in May. Looks like they are about to get smashed by this thing.

Because no one posted it when it took Irma over the Florida peninsula @ the 06z run. They only use the Canadian or Navgem when they're wish casting.

That seems a bit surprising, given the sample images of annular hurricanes I've seen online. Certainly don't know enough to argue though.

I was there on Jost at the end of May/early June. I love it down there and go to St. John and the BVI a couple of times a year. We're in the process of planning a trip to Anegada and St. John the same time next year.

There may be nothing left on Anegada. The highest point on the island is 28 feet above sea level.

Hopefully everyone who has ever dreamt of visiting Barbuda has done so already, because they're going to be dead center of the front right quadrant of the eye wall..

Yeah, whoever does this annular rating must be awful OCD.

This will be my first experience with a Hurricane of it hits the gulf coast of FL. I know nothing about any of this weather stuff. Thank y'all for helping me try to understand. I do have a question. Maybe a stupid question but a question nonetheless. With the state of FL so "small" going from gulf coast to east coast , is being in the center of the state "safe"? It just seems that this thing could wreck the whole damn state.

The young brunette on TWC just said an Alabama landfall was not out of the question.
